  1. it's nice to have something fun to watch other the hermits scrambiling at feeding time most corals are beautiful but watching them grow is like watching paint dry.it's nice to have an animal with personality. I can't wait till the new tank is set up and ready to stock with pretty and interesting animals!
  2. I got a clown with the tank I rescued I don't know what kind (looks like nemo except red) my son loves it. just this week I noticed it hanging around the xenia insted of all over the tank bickering with the yellow tang. and this morning I noticed something funny when I fed the fish with shrimp the clown would dash out eat 3 or 4 shrimp then take the next one back to the xenia and spit it out and seemed pissed that the xenia didn't grab the shrimp this went on for about 10 min. is this what hosting is all about and do I need to get him (or her) a Anemone? reguardles it was fun to watch(clap)
  3. I am a fairly new member I read the fourm here a lot and don't post much. I agree with what someone said above this site was very hard for me to find. I am not good with a computer and had no idea how to find local people with the same intrests I was finaly referred to this site by a LFS and through this sites sponsors section found the LFS's that I now go to. I hope this club survives I read the fourms every morning with my coffee. That said I know I have only made it to the BBQ and this last sunday's meet I would like very much for the club to have hands on demonstrations like scaping the rock in a tank to make the most of your space with differant types of corals and fish, how to cure some of the problems we all seem to have oldies and nubey's alike. mabey even some of the older hands in this hobby giving a talk on all the different things they have tryed and the road the took to get the great tank they now have. I hope to get to see members tank's at the meetings that sounded great to me and hope soon to have a tank worth sharing.
  4. Thanks twiterbait I liked that idea and am plumbing my pump now. I will however have baffels also as one side is now glued in thanks everyone for the Info.
  5. Right now I'm using some thing called mozilla I think but am getting set up with outlook some time this week so I will try that thanks
  6. Don't know how to post pic's yet but first sump is a simple one. from left to right a 10"X16" for intake w/sock & skimmer, a10"X16" center return and a 11"X 16"X14" fuge. this seems to be a common layout looking forward to filling it tomorrow hopefully no leaks. I have taken pic's from the start building frame drilling tank building sump but all the pic's are 3 to 5 meg's and I have to get my nephew over to show me how to fix the size and post them in the tank section.
  7. Thanks Nyles I just put together a small temp sump with putty and scraps flowed some water with bubbles through it and see what you mean. thanks almost made another beginer why bother with this mistake,
  8. Just putting the finnishing touches on my new sump and was wondering why are there three baffels in a over under over bubble trap? it would seem to me that any bubbles that made it past the under section would just float up to the serface and the last plate dosn't seem to do anything am I missing somthing?(scratch) remimber this is my first sump.:p
  9. Thanks CCR for the name, I could'nt get the linc to work but at least I know what I'm looking for. Any one know who might have them in the area?
  10. I know I have read someware in this fourm about some rubber gromits that you can use to seal around PVC instead of a bulkhead fitting. I am looking for something to use inside my sump so I am not all that concerned about leaks but would like if it didn't. I can't remimber what they were called or if they are to be found in the portland area. if any of this makes sense and you know whare I might find them i would thank you.
  11. I have a 55g upgradeing to a 75g reef A 150g Freshwater in the office and a 35g freshwater in my sons room he's hoping to make into a saltwater as soon as dad has time after finnishing his own upgrade.
  12. I always felt bad about how sharks were fished mostly for there finns a lot of the meat was just thrown back and wasted because you could make so much more money just keeping the fins. I was a commercial fisherman in Alaska for about 9 years and went to the fish markets in Japan many times and it was amasing how many fins were for sale compared to the body or meat of the shark. I hope movies like this will make people think. Looking forward to watching.
  13. how Big are the pieces of live rock? looking for large ones for new tank
  14. sully If you use it on your reactors it sounds safe to me I think I will give it a try.
  15. Attaching it should be easy I have fittings that are barbed on one side standard pipe thread on the other. about the price I was hoping I have enough left over from a previous job. Hoping to save money for that new skimmer.
  16. I have some laying around from a Past job thats why I thought of it just trying to save some money would like to buy a OM 4way for the CL if I can save some on other things
  17. Hi all i'm getting the parts together to plumb my CL and was thinking about trying to use Wirsbo or what they call Pex tubing now. I have used it to plumb a house and I heard that they use it in hospitals so I can't see how it would be harmful in a SW tank. It comes in at least 3 colors and is flexible so no 90's are needed so should have good flow. it has a 20 year guarantee so what do you guys think? anyone used this befor? do you se any problems with it? http://www.pexsupply.com/categories.asp?cID=517&brandid= sorry I can't figure out how to keep this as a link
  18. So if I made the footprint 16"X12" it would fit most skimmers for a 90gal tank?
  19. Sorry loman it took me a while to figure out how to open PM's is patrick the owner of fantiseas?
  20. I have about 33 1/2" under my stand as I built it to put my tank at what I concider a good viewing hight.so my sump is 16" deep how wide would I need to make the compartment for this skimmer?
  21. loman do you mind if I ask what they run and do you know of a store close to portland that carries them?
  22. that way I can make some choices on how to divi up the rest for the fuge and return sections
  23. thanks for the replys I should have mentioned that the footprint of my sump/fuge will be 36"X 16" and I was just trying to figure how much of the 36" deminsion I needed for a good skimmer on a 90gal tank
  24. I have been working on setting up my new tank for some time now takeing my time trying to do it right. But now there is a new Sense of Urgency my 55 has sprung a leak! so my question is how large of a footprint do I need in my sump for a skimmer that will handle a 90gal tank? I need to cut and glue the new sump/fuge to night if possible and just need a ballpark idea.
  25. I got the evite for this but don't know how to PM ether of the people for details of when and where and all that good stuff. so could someone please PM me I think I have figured out how to read one LOL
