  1. I am getting the system ready for hatching some baby clow fish out and raising them. In a book I borrowed from Reid, I found a 9 pop bottle and 1 5-10 gallon aquarium system for microalgae, rotifers, and brine shrimp. I am interested in different set ups, so please post any you may have set up. I will post pictures as I go, but do any of you have any do's or don'ts for me to learn prior to messing up?

  2. I drove from Corvallis to Dundee for some of this rock. I was very happy with the quality of pieces. Lots of great stuff living in and on it. If anyone needs some rock, or was even thinking of getting some, this is the time and place to do it. My tank looks so much better now. I imagine that I will be fiddling with the rock for a few days to get everything into position, but I can see already I am going to be pleased with the results.

  3. I work at a residential psychiatric treatment facility. I am in the teen girl cottage, and one is a cutter (well lots are cutters, but the one who jumped me is). She was going to run, so I was bringing her back in and she went after me with a razor blade. She ate curb, I got a sprained pinky finger, and unfortunatly my boss got a cut on his finger. You know it is a big thing when the lutenient shows up with bean bag shot in a shot gun. Anyways, all is well that ends well, and I am so glad to be quiting and entering grad school for September. I will always look back at these days with mixed emotions, I have the privledge of witnessing and taking part in grad transformations, but I sure have a lot of war stories at the same time (just think about 15 girls all on their own hormone cycles(wife) (fishhit) (hitme) ).

  4. OK, please forgive me for asking a stupid question, but what are MJ's. I want to build, so what do I need to bring to do so? For the potluck, I was thinking of bringing some lasagna or cheese filled shells with marinara sauce. When it was stated to bring clippers, would pruners for plants work? What type of glue is used? And finally, does the rocks/rubble need to be dry?

  5. Just a note for anyone looking to buy some more of the Reef-roids:

I bought mine through Fins-Reef in North Carolina and the shipping was free. A container that is meant to feed a 100 gallon tank for 3 months was $19.99 which was the same price as the other places selling but without the shipping. Glad that you all posted your results so I knew I was buying quality before spending the bucks. I just need frags now, June 3rd on it's way.....

  6. That works for me. 1/4 box would be $43.75 or 1/3 box would be $58.33. Either way would work for me. I can run to Eugene and pick it up, and we could meet somewhere to divide the box out. Would some time between the 8th and 10th of June work?

  7. They had a couple of types. I don't really care which type, so whoever wants to go in on the purchase can pick. Figi branch or fugi runs $175 for 45 to 50 pounds, tonga colinie is $330 for 88 pounds, and Toka island is $200 for 50 pounds. I would prefer to get the Figi or Figi branch, but am flexable.

  8. Party, party, party!!!!!

I told my "special friend" that I was going to go to a frag party. He was suprised and worried (maybe even jealous) until he got that it was corals (or fishy stuff as he calls it) instead of young hot guys. Hehe.

I am really excited for this event, and very happy that it is in my neighborhood. Does anyone know if the liquid calcium works enough to get by for a couple of months, or if I should get a calcium reactor prior to the party?

  9. I don't know one skimmer from the next, but after just one day of the skimmer going, this is what I have. The water collection cup is about 1 to 1.5 inches full of grime. My water looks great, a very noticable difference. I am hoping that the algea does not grow as fast, but that may not be a function of the skimmer. Now I just need to wait for the iche to be gone and my aquarium should be a happy flowing bucket of salt. Thanks to everyone that has give lots of advice. It really helps for people such as myself that as new to the hobby.

  10. I got the stuff from Fanta-seas. I am really impressed with that shop. Hopefully higher quality food will help my wet beasties. The skimmer is now going in the sump :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) :) !!!!!!!!

  11. I think I have figured it out!!!! I decided that my greatest frustration was cleaning up all the salt water mess. Even though it is on hard floor, it was still a pain. So, I took the skimmer into the tub and was able to work on tweeeking it without the worry of the draining fish tank and the mess on the floor. I think that the tube was just higher than the skimmer, so it was easier to spill out the top than go out into the tank. It is now working in the tub. I am running to PDX to get medicine for the ich problem, then I will get the skimmer going in the tank.
