  1. Little bit of both; My position has been pushed me to different line of management. Boss man is in Mid-coastal California. I anticipate being there a few times a month (as long as I can bear it).

Jennifer and I are going to Hawaii in a week or two and only staying 5 days, but I realized that I want to travel much more now that I have the ability and take some backpacking trips to SE Asia and S. America.

The tank is a lot of maitenance and worry. I want to not have to theorize about what to do if the power goes out for an hour or two. I think I am just going to replace it with something smaller, less energy impacting and less maitenance in the future. I have never, in 26 years, been able to get out of the hobby, it's just a new place now.

  2. No. That would not be a closed loop. A closed loop is when you pull water from the tank and just put it back in via an OM, SCWD.

my sump is purely for filtration and and not flow. So the far right union pulls water from the tank and goes to my mag, then from the outlet of the mag goes to the middle union which goes up to the OM and puts the water back in the tank. Does that make sense...The sump plumbing is not done yet. that will hopefully be tonight.

That's what I was trying to alleviate... there has been some confusion regarding this, and seeing the plumbing... well, I just didn't see it.

I also agree with Rich. Especially with the OM, you may want to get an external pump for this task. There will be a head pressure and this will be transferred to the pump, in the form of heat. Having it submerged may contribute to some problems down the road.

  3. Well, it was 1300 feet down. It's not like we can just put our tanks on our backs and go down that far! Small wonder we can't find him.

What's the deal with the front claws? I see the eyes are reminicent of a stomotapod, although, likely suited to deep water. This family just evolves by leaps and bounds.

Shrimp will one day evolve past humans, and then will take over the world.

  4. keith, they really are annoying. Not in the Simon Cowell way either.

The buffered water may refer to kalkwasser for some people. If you need the calcium for SPS, this may be appropriate. If you have mainly softies and some LPS, it may not be as necessary.

I use an acrylic safe mag-float. Works perfect when there is no sand in the pad. Otherwise, when people come over and wanna play with it, I get scared.

  5. We're just too into the idea that as the dominant species on this planet, we need to re-prove ourselves on a personal level.

Then again, I am into fishing too... but I do the catch and release thing... 'cause freshwater fish don't taste too good.
