  1. My concern would be pH- If I remember correctly, freshwater angels prefer soft, slightly acidic water. The carbonate is likely buffer the tank pH higher than you'd like and also contribute to water hardness.

I don't think the salt will be an issue if the rocks are rinsed.

The coraline will not stay colored.

  2. Are you running carbon? I thought it helped when my tank went mysteriously cloudy. I'm blaming the halimeda 'going sexual'.

I've got some (I'm pretty close) if you want to pick some up. A water change won't hurt either.

  3. as a side note i think most of us this this is really really scary but to tell you the truth this is kinda fun to me i like playing with corals and seeing them happy after we do dips' date=' if know what i mean like having a coral that all pissed off turning brown then RTNing then after you find them through investigating you treat them see the death and pain of the buggers then see that coral instantly happy and fully out with in hours or days it kinda has a really good feeling. was about the same fun as the first time i had red bug on a acro colony. kinda wierd but still alot of fun.[/quote']

I know exactly what you mean- to see my favorite coral, bleached and getting overtaken by algae was too much. But then to take some action to help them recover and be successful is a lot of fun.

  4. Sweet fish.

Im glad i was wrong about the bryopsis.

Either i had a different nuclear kind on steroids or i ticked God off..........whatever the case may be, whenever i see the stuff i cringe........

    :)

Me too (about the bryopsis). I suspect you hadn't sacrificed to the reef gods...

It's a great fish- he is eating off of the corals now too.(rock2)

  5. Impur- That's comforting to hear. In the 36 hours since I've added the hermits and rabbitfish, nearly all of the green algae growing on my purple monti cap is gone. I was out of the house all day yesterday, so I can't say whether it was just the hermits or if the rabbitfish helped. Eitherway, I can report some success.

  6. My hermits never clean that stuff well' date=' but the snails, they clean triple their weight. Good luck.[/quote']

I agree about the snails- just have never seen them actually on any coral. But I guess I've never needed them to clean the coral before... Thanks.

  7. I'd love to say the rabbitfish was eating the algae on the coral- but that would be an exaggeration. I've only seen him picking algae off the live rock today.

I don't mind your pessimism... I fully realize that I may have to ultimately frag the corals to save them- I'm just going to do my best to avoid that option.
