  1. I hope this will not get deleted... I know this is not reef related' date=' but it can not be nearly as valotile as my last post...[/quote']

You don't have to talk about reef stuff in out of bounds. In fact, no reef stuff is allowed in out of bounds! (laugh)

What you need to do is "moderate" your thread. Try to keep the peace and yet still debate the topic. Stay calm, cool and collected. And by all means, PMs are your friend. Sometimes things should be said via PM rather than made public on the boards. The key to debates is to know and understand both sides of the argument. Typically both sides have merit as well as holes in their respective theories.

And as for the topic, call me negative, but I think it's against human nature to have a peaceful society. Don't get me wrong, I would love to see world peace. It would warm my cold, black heart to see people holding hands and singing John Lennon songs. I do think that eliminating poverty would be a step in the right direction. Lord knows money is a big motive for "war" (I won't mention any deleted threads of yours), but the other part of the equation would be to erradicate that part of the brain that craves power. It seems that for every peace-loving person, there are two "Dubya's" to throw off the balance.

But that's just my take on it! I'd also be curious to see how the abolishment of poverty would impact tax payers. And would people take advantage of it like so many already do with public assistance, ie Oregon Trail and HUD.

Flame on! No, no, no... just kidding! Let's keep it civil. Opinions are like... noses... everyone has one. ;)

  2. I tried to make those of you that posted your links friends, but I kept getting technical errors. Darned MySpace and their errors! But it's not like I can complain, it's free! And Brandon... nice to finally see what you look like! (laugh)

I know what some of you mean by not knowing what to do. I've made pages for three different people. My advice... play around in there and you'll figure it out. And if you can't... I'm only a PM away! ;)

My success story with it is I went to high school with a kid named Charlie. No, we weren't an item... I tend to relate better to boys. Could be because I was raised by my dad. But I digress! He moved from Willamina to McMinnville and I lost touch with him. For years I tried to hunt him down with no success. Then in July he found me on MySpace... after just about 20 years. I was pretty pleased with the site, needless to say! :D

  3. I hope you guys backup your forums. :)

Yes we do... that's why we only lost a few posts from that morning. Keith had asked that we remove him from being mailed every time that there is an error in the database and sadly when I tried to fix that I took the site down. But, amusingly enough, it was by killing the site that we were able to figure out where the automatic email was generating from. So even though it was bad... it was good. (laugh)

  4. All right... here's ours:

Majestic angel... has a taste for pavona, xenia and shrooms. Course, the second he goes after something we like, he will be evicted. And that will be a long, humorous thread. (scary)

    DSC05093.jpg

Starry blenny. And man, is he hard to see... excellent camoflague!

    DSC04765.jpg

Rabbit-ses (we call him that because of Golem saying "Stupid fat hobbit-ses!"). He eats right from my hand, which scares the crap out of Jay since he's venomous. I tell him to just dodge the spines ya pansy! (laugh)

    DSC04053.jpg

The Terminator. Destroyer of snails and hermits!

    DSC03087.jpg

Meatball... sure, he looks cute. But he has a taste for blood! Especially Jay's!

    DSC04750.jpg

My high-fin shrimp goby sadly perished thanks to a bully lawnmower (who consequently met him demise). I miss him!

Here's a little blenny I had for a while until he decided to commit suicide and jump. (sad)

And that's all the pics I have on Photobucket. (laugh)

  5. Wow! That is pretty awesome, how they do that! I don't know if I would feel secure putting that on the internet though since it has their addresses. But maybe I can do something like that for the southern tour and put it on our server... but only PM the link to it to those who want to participate. That way our info would be relatively safe. We'll have to preplan the southern tour pretty early so we wouldn't have to scramble to put the "brochure" together though! :D

  6. Anyhow have fun.

Oh, I'm having fun! Course mostly right now I'm researching my lenses and squirreling away money for it. And drooling at the L lenses because I know they're awesome based on reviews, but there's no chance I'm going to pony up the big bucks to get one. Although there is an L lens that is actually feasible, but it doesn't have IS... and I have shaky hands.

  7. How can you tell what type of ric you have (yuma, any other types)?

I have some orange ones, and one that's a blue-gray coloration.

Neil told me that if you look at the neck (leading to the mouth), if there's bumps it's a yuma. If the neck is smooth, it's a ric. And according to this I have orange rics and a multi-colored yuma.

  8. To be honest' date=' its the first time i have had reason to suspect TRT, PNWMAS, or RC for either giving out my email address or (more likely) somebody hacking one of the systems and stealing it.[/quote']

Well of course I sell your email address! You don't think Jay and I work on these pages for free do you? Just kidding! We do work for free and we're not selling off your email address. No dolphin spam for me since I didn't sign the petition. And now that I know you guys are getting spammed, that will certainly keep me from doing it! ;)

  9. I usually throw together a slurry of phyto, cyclopeeze and I think it's Formula One cubes and just try to shoot some smaller chunks at the mouths. I haven't heard any complaints out of them. (laugh)

  10. Very nice! Just an FYI, but when I moved the rics from the big tank to my nano and started to target feed, they started splitting. One went to five. :D

  11. Don't worry... you don't have to be an elitist to show your tank. Believe me, our tanks aren't cutting edge by any means. We're just your run-of-the-mill hobbyists as well. I don't think anyone is expecting perfection or some incredibly massive system with top of the line equipment and not a speck of coralline to mar one's viewing enjoyment. In fact, just a few days ago you could hardly see into Jay's 240 because of the INCREDIBLE proliferation of purple coralline. Bah! Dad got tired of it and scraped it. (clap)

So keep signing up, everyone! Let Roger know you're interested in opening up your tank for viewing... whether it's a nano or large system, SPS or softie system or mixed reef. Whatever! We just want to see all of your hard work and give you pats on the back for a job well done! :D

  12. How are we doing on this? Do we still only have a couple of members willing to open up their homes for us to drool over their tanks? Time is running out, kids! You can blindfold us and lead us to your tanks, throw blinders on so we can only see your tank and not the rest of your houses. (naughty)

Just in case anyone is worried, there will be no trashing of houses. You don't need to have snacky cakes or cheesy poofs, no drinky-poos. We just want to see your hard work! :D

  13. Has the Canon come in yet?

I've been considering one myself. My "old" SLR is a Canon and have already invested "a bit" of $$ in lenses and I'm pleased with Canon but would like to hear first hand accounts if'n ya don't mind :)

    James

I'm really pleased with the camera. Haven't had any problems with it. Battery life is excellent, takes great pics (though I really need a better quality lens than the kit lens), and I absolutely love the option of shooting RAW! I don't regret the purchase one bit. But remember, I'm jumping from prosumer to DSLR, so I'm pretty easily impressed! (laugh)

Can't wait for Andy to have his photography workshop so I can learn a bit more about the manual settings though! ;)
