vanz
Something hijacked my search engines and is redirecting everything to toseeka or couponmountain.com. I can't log on to other forums, post, or use the PM feature using firefox. I'm testing with opera now to see if anything changes. I'm using ad-aware, avg, combofix to try and fix, but it doesn't get rid of them all. halp plz
vanz
I guess opera lets me post...I'm gonna try the search engines
vanz
looks like the search engines are working with opera, but still something is seriously wrong with my computer. Anyone know what's up?
wobble
Might try installing Malware Bytes (free). Do a full scan and see if that removes it. http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.html?part=dl-10804572&subj=dl&tag=button After restarting your computer, install and run spybot (also free). http://www.download.com/Spybot-Search-amp-Destroy/3000-8022_4-10122137.html?tag=mncol Running those two should take care of most spyware. andy
Yeah, there are some nasty ones out there. I had to wipe and reload my PC a few weeks ago after I 'contracted' some malware that redirected my browser. I found a couple of anti-malware programs that could detect the problem, but none was actually able to fix it. Good luck!
wobble
Another thing you should do is run an online Kaspersky scan for free: http://www.kaspersky.com/kos/eng/partner/default/languages/english/check.html?n=1235541275087 If none of those options work, there is a manual fix, but you will have to delete some registry keys and some files in safe mode. Let me know if you need any further help with this.
JasonH
Try Spybot. Great program and totally free. Do a search on your file manager for any program created today (option in file search window) and delete it. That sucks - sorry.
wobble
I agree with Andy. Sometimes if you are just too infected, it's best to wipe it out and reload Windows. It's amazing how fast a fresh Windows install is. This may help too: http://www.myantispyware.com/2009/02/19/how-to-remove-google-searches-redirect-via-7770-remove-rootkitwin32agentfwt/
CCR
I am still trying to get 2 of mine fixed. I had to wipe the laptop The desktop I'm still figthting. I did try several of the free programs, all that have been mentioned above. Each having some affect but not enough to actually clean it. I'm using another full program that is working. I don't know how much you'r familler with torrents, but it works out well
vanz
I tried this online scanner...but it crashed every time I tried to run it. For some reason spybot doesn't even start up on my computer...might have to reinstall. The infected computer is at home so i'll have to try the other programs you guys have listed. Thanks guys! andy
I've heard that some trojans will block or redirect access away from anti-malware sites, maybe they're starting to sabotage removal tools too? Or maybe I'm just paranoid...

It wanted you to pay $49.95 to get "protected" or continue unprotected. Very nasty. That's what I have been fighting. The hackers keep putting it out. Keeps the software companies rich. Donot use a thumb drive between the computers till all is clean or you will reinfect. Format the the drive also.
andy
Or use a Mac or Linux box. I've never had any virus/trojan trouble with either. Yes, I know it's possible but the odds are a lot longer. Did you delete the svguard.exe files yet? Not sure how I picked up that one though..Once I got rid of the antivirus 2009 (which pretended to be Microsoft) spyware protect came up doing the same exact same popup crap the other one did. How funny. Not really but yes it was the 2009 crap that imitated a windows program. I especially liked the message that wasn't even in proper English!!!!!!!! JasonH
Another thing - sorry if you already know this - but make sure that you are running your internet line (post cable or DSL modem) through a router. The router is huge in virus protection - it will prevent the push tactics.

andy
Most, if not all, come with port forwarding and internet-side-admin turned off which'll protect against most traditional attacks. You still have to set up the wireless security to stop bandwidth thieves and nosy neighbors though.
wobble
While using a router is a good idea, let's not it give people a false sense of security. A router will protect you from most malicious attempts to gain access to your computer from an outside source. However, the NAT functionality of routers will not stop trojans, adware, and spyware. These infections are usually caused by unsafe surfing practices. Clicking on popups, opening infected Emails, clicking on random links, downloading infected files from file sharing programs, etc. Running some kind of software firewall is always a good idea. It will let you know of any attempts made into and out of your computer.
