kriz2fer
When designing your rockscape what are you looking to accomplish? A wall of stacked rocks? Seperate islands? Cool looking overhangs? When we first got into the hobby we all thought to pile rocks forming a wall of corals was the way to go. Things have changed a lot since then an we now understand how water flows through our rock work and removes settled detritus. One of the major flaws people do is leave dead areas in the reef which lead to higher po4 and no3. Instead of leaving an open rock work they add different powereads to combat dead flow areas. When designing your next aquascapes think about how things occur in nature. Leave room between the back wall. Don't stack rocks, instead create structures and islands. There are no rock walls in nature... Clean open scape is beneficial to the tank not just for visual.

Islandoftiki
This is what I am planning to do with my 25 gallon mantis tank. It isn't going to have a lot of coral in it, so I want the rockscape to be an attraction in and of itself. Thanks for the great post, it gave me some ideas.
