saltsick4u
I really want to make a change to my substrate but my sand is 4 years old and counting so I wish to keep it in the system. Can anyone help? I am told to research remote sand beds.....but I am still a bit lost.
Smann
Try Google, "remote sand bed", there are a lot of them. I dont think anyone on here is doing one. I keep sand in one of my sump chambers. When I vacuum my sand bed in the tank I save it, clean it and add it to the sump or mix it with new and add it back into the tank
grassi
I do run a remote sand bed. 5 gallon bucket filled almost all the way up with playing sand from HD. Slow filtered flow through it. Change half of the sand every 6 months or so. That's all.
