The information that I have read says that they usually only eat them if they need a new shell or are hungry so my question is where do I buy extra shells around here? If not, call your LFS they should have some you can snag. I wouldn't worry too much about hermits going on a murder spree. Your reading is pretty spot on, they only attack when they want a larger home. Give Ryan at Advanced Aquarium a call. I'd bet he can help you out.
