Water Changes with Septic

My parents have a septic system at their house and were wondering if there are any issues with dumping the dirty water in it? I'm using sewer so I never thought of this being an issue but has anyone else come across this? And if so is it an issue or are we just being worried over nothing??

I just run my old water out to the yard.

That shouldn't be an issue either but have you heard if it's a problem just dumping it in the drain?

No not to my grass, to the bark, gravel, just down the driveway, depending on what hose I grab and how long it is.

I just pour it outside as well. Hasn't even killed my grass yet!

They have plenty of property to dump it on was just looking to see if they didn't have to open the door to dump it was all.

I wouldn"t think so if the system is newer, but the older ones are metal, or have galvanised pipes and the salt would prob not be a good idea.

I'd worry a little about how the salinity would effect bacteria but it would really depend on how much tank waste water we're talking about. 20 gallons a month for a typical household doesn't seem like much more than a blip. 20 gallons a day might be a different story.

Maybe shoot a call to a septic service company. I cant find anything difinitive on the WWW.

Not sure why I didn't think of looking at that. I guess if it's PVC it shouldn't be an issue but with metal i could see how that could rust the pipes.

we couldn't find anything either that's why I figured I'd ask on here.

 

And were only talking 15 gallons a week max for a change but we will just dump it somewhere on their property. It's not a tiny city lot so it should be fine.

should not much of a problem specially if they put a teaspoon of yeast down the drain about once a month. this should help the ceptic tank stay healthy, bacteria wise.

Yeah I was thinking more of the effect on the bacteria or rather the environment the bacteria need to thrive. Doesn't sound like the volume added will be that much.

It shouldn't be an issue regardless of age. If the salt in it was going to errode the pipes it would have long since done so due to the urine which has a salinity level that is higher than our tanks. Anyone that has owned a travel trailer with a holding tank knows that 10 gallons a week will only be a fraction of the amount of urine already going down the drain.
