jgf86123
Is there anyway to fix a ballast that's quit firing? Or am I better off buying a new one? I think my 175w has quit firing, the bulbs, all 4 bulbs I have, light up about as much as a flashlight who's batteries are goin dead. Does that mean its quit firing or do I have other probs? TIA
andy
Magnetic or electronic ballast?
jgf86123
im gonna say magnetic, its a big box lol
reefcam
is it a PFO ballast? (big silver case). If so you can take apart the case and see what ballast it is. Might have to go to an specialty store to get a replacement ballast.
andy
If it is a magnetic, it may just be the capacitor that's giving out. New ones are about $30 from Hello Lights. Replacement takes some know-how but it isn't terribly complex.

andy
Are the screws crudded up and jammed, or?
jgf86123
crudded up and jammed, 3 came out ok, the rest, it almost feels like they're rusted in, since I need a 250 over the 40 breeder anyway, I think I'll just upgrade and try and sell this one or something if someone would be interested in buying it to try and fix LOL
