CA2OR
So I have been told and would like to verify this. Are cross hatch triggers reef safe?
COReefer
yes!!!!!!!!!!!! as are bluejaw and sargassum
CA2OR
They wont eat my corals or inverts?
COReefer
shouldn't but depends on the fish. they are planktivores and won't screw with anything that's not in the water column. Notice I said shouldn't. My bluejaw is a model citizen.
CA2OR
I have always wanted a trigger, but was told that they aren't reef safe and I would have to set up a fish only site to have them. I would love a clown or picasso but those aren't reef safe right?
ClayTheSavageFraser
They sure are pretty! I went investigating and everywhere I looked they are all positive that they are reef safe! Clay
COReefer
the bluejaw and sargassum are my favs. They have a sargassum here in redmond that I'm still considering.
CA2OR
But they are pricey....like $125 for the cross hatch, and I want a small one. That one is pretty large.
COReefer
it's tough to find small ones. Something to do with collection. The smallest bluejaw I have seen is aobut 4 inches same with sargassum
CA2OR
yeah see I want one like 1.5 to 2 inches at most. I would love to get a 1 incher...
COReefer
I can guarantee that isn't going to happen. they just aren't available.
c24
Ya and I promis you'll never find a crosshatch for under
CA2OR
well I did. I found one for $125. Serious no BS. It is at a former LFS in So Cal. I don't know how big it is, nor if it came from someone else's tank. But the fact is that there is one available for $125. I posted that in my forth post I believe. But following your post I will be calling right at 10a. Wish I would have known this yesterday when I spoke to him. maybe I just pick up and sell for $300.....Killer price right? kev311
Wow thats a smokin deal, the cheapest that I found them for was $220, beautiful fish though.
CA2OR
Hmm....so they are under $400....I am thinking this one must be from a tank break down. I just barely started looking up prices after C24's post. I have found pairs for under $500...well a pair for $
CA2OR
Here is one for $199. http://anythingsaltwater.com/female-crosshatch-trigger-rare-p-866.html then again I am finding them for as high as $549.99.

Lowman
How big is your tank? Those triggers will get pretty large.
c24
Ok so maybe I shouldn't have put it that way but I personally would not order one online. I would try to get one at a local fish store that you are certain thats eating however you may have to pay more for it. Sorry didn't mean to start an uproar DOH! Hmm....so they are under $400....I am thinking this one must be from a tank break down. I just barely started looking up prices after C24's post. COReefer
eric, I don't think you are going to find a trigger of any sort that will be ok in either of your tanks. It's not like the pt that you have. They grow fairly rapidly and they are still just as messy as other triggers. Just not as predatory if that makes sense.

CA2OR
way too small I am sure. It is a 46g. C24-you didn't start anything. I saw by searches online that you were pretty accurate in your appraisal of the trigger.
c24
I have to agree with Daniel then. They are a very dirty fish. I have a sargassum trigger in a 210 and he eats like a beast. Just as aggressive as any other trigger as far as eating is concerned just reef safe.
CA2OR
hmm.....guess I am not doing aggessive salt then. Oh well, back to the cichlid's.
