  1. This program is amazing and it was the best two years of my life! Chris became director half way thru my degree and he had done so many amazing things in that short period of time. Are you looking to get a degree or the certificate? Nye Beach is a nice area if you're looking to buy as well as the bay front. If you get your application all filled out right and if they're still doing phone interviews just do your best. Also keep in mind where you want to take your career after the program that will help you when you decide where to do your internship. Also these members are amazing! My tank at school was the "coral" tank which didn't have much besides some things I brought from home. But these guys hooked us up with lots of corals and clams for the tank as well as HMSC. They invited us to come to their meeting which was very cool to meet everyone and see which corals came from which members. Thanks guys! Good Luck! - Michaela
  2. I have been doing the live food culture room at my college. We have Nannochloropsis, Artemia, and Rotifers. The brine shrimp we have is the San Francisco Bay brand Hatch Mix. I have done 3 different culture starts and it still has about ten bbs hatching each time. Has anyone worked with this brand or with hatching bbs? Also if you have what did you enrich them with? I have been feeding them the Nannochloropsis I have been culturing, have you used Selco, or anything else? If any one has any advice that would be great!
  3. Either. Usually one of each but they just hired a senior aquarist for visitors center so it could be just one in West Wing. My friend is the west wing aquarist now and she will be leaving in april.

  5. Hatfield Marine Science Center usually hires an AQS student each year for either the visitors center aquarist or west wing (hospital) aquarist.

  13. Hi all, I am new to this and would like to introduce myself. I am going to college for a degree in Aquarium Science and will be soon graduating in March. I am from the Midwest and new to the Northwest. I had a marine biology/ aquarium science program in high school and that sparked my interest in tropical marine fish and invertebrates. Moving to Oregon for school was much different because we set up all the aquariums. I am very interested in corals and marine fish, but we are very limited at the college. I want to make our "coral tank" that has a few frags of Kenya tree corals and some Anthelia, into a tank with some hard corals because we have really nice lights on there that we could get the corals to grow in. With that being said if anyone would be willing to donate any corals to our classroom for future education that would be very appreciated. Thanks, Michaela
