kireek
According to the book Marine Invertebrates by Ronald L.Shimek,"Many abnormal and deleterious conditions may also result in polyp extension." Some of the examples provided included; 1.) Polyp extension with no sighs of new growth and tissue recession might indicate a lack of food. 2.) Polyp extension with no sighs of new growth and intact tissues may indicate a lack of calcium. Are there any other times when good polyp extension is a bad sigh? *MARINE INVERTEBRATES 500+ Essential-to-know Aquarium Species.Written by Ronald L.Shimek PH.D. ©2004 T.F.H.Publications,Inc.One T.F.H. matts125
Interesting read. The way I look at it is if corals are growing well as well as coralline with great polyp extension the corals must be fat and happy lol. I for one have never experienced excessive polyp extension on a unhealthy specimen. But it's always nice to learn these things so if or when you see it you know something may be wrong.
