  1. jayR,

I would also not recommend using TAP water.  550 gall would be a dream tank for me and I would do everything in my power to start it off correctly.

I live in Camas on a well and my TDS is 49.  I also change my filters once I see 1 TDS coming out of my RODI unit.

My unit is a 150GPD and I always have 25 gallons on hand.  I have about 3-4 clean 5 gallon totes for transport.  You are more than welcome to come get water from me. If you are willing to make multiple trips I can just stock up for you.

    Let me know.

  2. Holly,

Thank you for opening up your house to all of us.  You have been a great help in the 1 year that my family and I have been reefing. The first time we met you and you invited us into your house with open arms and answered all of our stupid questions.  You are a great person with a large heart and we love seeing your amazing corals. I look forward to seeing you again at the next one.

  3. Hello,

I just recently got a Apex.  With the apex comes the ability to monitor ORP.  I really don't understand what ORP does in our aquariums.  My ORP has been steadily climbing since I got the Apex on line. Is an ORP of 457 too high?  How can I regulate ORP?

    Thank you for your help.

  4. SuncrestReef,

This was great.  You have great techno skills and your tutorials are very easy to follow. I wish I would have made it out to your house for the gathering so I could see your setup in person.  I am setting up my mixing station very similar to yours.  Now I am working on setting up my AWC and want to add the temp, salinity, tank levels to my tanks.  This is all because of you and your awesome setup..

  5. This was our family's first Frag Fest and we had a great time. My son was so excited he is now talking about converting his freshwater tank over to a frag tank.  We ended up leaving with 15 corals were very happy with our choices.

Thank you to everyone who worked hard at putting this event together.  I am looking forward to the next one.

Bicycle bill points out a good website for those.  You however don't need the realys and what not because your apex will control it.

My only recommendation is to crimp a pair of bullet connectors on the float switch wires, that way when you take your lid off to wash it in the sink you can just easily disconnect and reconnect the float switch.

If you buy a break out box you can make DIY leak detectors as well.  Just run two wires to floor, strip of an inch or so of the wire insulation off and tape them to the floor about 1/2" apart.

You can also make a simple button switch to start feed mode with a break out box.

Very nice suggestions.  I was thinking about the lid and how to make it removable.  I did not want to leave it in there and not wash it.

I do have a breakout box in the garage I just need to get in under the tank and hooked up.  The switch for feed mode would also be great for the wife so she does not have to open fusion to feed.

  7. Hello Reefers,

I just had my protein skimmer overflow suddenly the other day.  I am looking to add a float valve to a breakout box to my apex to control the skimmer.  I looked at the below uxcell one on amazon but it has mixed reviews about reliability.

Does anyone have any recommendations on reliable float valves?

  8. Hello,

I have QTY (2) 65 gallon water tanks and a wood stand for sale. I am asking $150 for all of it. The top tank in the pictures does have a small hole drilled in the top where I had my float valve for my RO/DI, and also has a 3/4 valve.   The bottom tank is brand new never used because I used a garbage can to mix my salt water.

As you can see in the pictures I need the room in my garage.
