  1. I have 2 and had them both up for trade just last week.... Didn't get traction so now they are repurposed. One functions as a mood light of sorts in the kids room and the other lights my stand so I can see under there......lol.... Neither are even remotely lighting anything in water

  2. To be honest with you I don't consider bubble magnus top quality equipment. Their stuff looks like cheap replicas of higher end equipment. If you're ever unsure of which piece of equipment to choose you can always ask for advice beforehand. Sorry about your situation though.

I would have to agree. I too feel for your situation though. Been there, done that. The amount of money I wasted in the beginning is staggering. If you would have shown me the figure I would be spending I may not have ever got into this in the first place.

  3. Well [emoji23] you really want to know......I have a few.....

My wife despises all the equipment I have sitting around. I mean it's in storage and all boxed up, but she still hates it.... And the drawers of tools and random plumbing parts I might need on the fly, frozen food, refrigerator food, glue, rags, and yeah.... pretty much everything about this hobby.... Except the tank.

  4. Hey everyone,

Is there anyone here who had a reef aquarium before RODI was a thing? I just had to replace my membranes and filter, and it made me think if there was a time when no one had an RODI unit. I imagine there was.....

Did you do anything different to compensate? Maybe get your water from the store or other special places?

I run my system without rodi, have been for years. Not joking. I use Prime and that's about it.

  5. This isn't for everyone but there are a select few that this might interest.

Dual 250w DE MH with PFO ballast.

Lights are in a DYI style enclosure that is easy to mount in a canopy.

Lights are also free floating meaning you can move them closer together or further apart depending on tank.

Design can be applied to larger unit.

Bulbs only have a couple months of usage.

Absolutely free. A simple "I'm in" will suffice.

I don't know how much interest there will be here so I guess it will depend on that but basically if it's only 2 people I will flip a coin....first to post is "heads", 12 or less and I will role a pair of dice (post number will determine entry number minus 1. So first post after this would be "1", anything more than 12 and I will use a random number generator.

I don't have pic's. This is a DYI style configuration, doesn't look terrible, just isn't like an ATI system either. Ballast is about as dependable as they get.

Winner determined on Sunday between 5 and 6....say 6. But if the thread is stagnant it might be 5.

  6. Hmmm.. you might need water :D

    I hear it helps.

I've always wanted a Crosshatch trigger (reef safe?) and an Achilles Tang. Never had a tank big enough for the tang, well I did but it wouldn't have been a good idea, but they are beautiful. Crosshatches are awesome as well.... To me at least. But I love triggers in a reef tank. Blue throat, Niger, ugh..... Just avoid huma huma triggers. I had one, one time, that never touched a coral and I loved that fish. Bought 3 more since losing the first one and they ALL ate coral, like first thing they did when entering the tank was take a bite of a coral then go hide. Provoking me wanting to spear said fish.

  7. Some of the reviews are complaining about the spread, others saying it's very blue. But as stated a few times now, you get what you pay for. Honestly, I would probably pass. I have had zero success with LED's that were under $100....HTH

  8. Some holistic vets have recommended applying coconut oil to the cat's teeth and gums as a possible treatment for dental problems. Coconut oil fat is nearly 50% lauric acid, which is a compound with amazing health promoting properties. It contains antifungal, antibacterial, antiviral properties that boost the immune system. Lauric acid is converted by the body into monolaurin and makes coconut oil effective in treating many bacterial and fungal infections.  I feel this may be worth a try.

If you do decide to go with the vet's option of tooth removal, you might look into this. https://www.carecredit.com/

I would second this. Wont hurt to try the Coconut oil before entertaining 1k in expenses. I would imagine the cat is like a family member though so I can understand the pressure or concern

  9. Dude, how many lights do you have? Do you have like a room dedicated to spare lights? Makes me feel like I am only faking it since I only have a few spare MH set ups sitting around now.

  10. My last and only grow out was very disappointing. I ended up dropping it altogether. Just adding my .02 here. If you want a successful grow out, allow only paid members and a buy in fee. I will also never do another grow out.

I ran 2 or 3 here before feeling the same way. I don't think it is understood how much work goes into running one of these.

  11. Ricordias would be tough..... but, i can see it working!

The members only thing is an option.... since Bret and I donated our zoas for the growout.... we required membership.

    GL!

Oh I get it. I think the last one I did was for members only. But a lot of non members expressed concerns over it being a cash grab for the club.

Either way I don't want to host it. I will help but I'm not doing that again here. It's fun and it's great to get the club involved, but it's a lot of work, lot of phone calls (for me anyway, calling sponsors for donations, getting custom plugs made, etc), and not a lot of perks. I also think prizes should consist of only gift cards so sponsors can get some income.

If someone wants to host it I found a couple of places that have them for $10 a piece on bulk orders.

  12. Just keep in mind if your not personally hosting it and a paid member hosts it with Prizes they will not let you participate unless you pay for membership. However if you find a hookup on a bulk purchase and there is no prizes offered or you are putting up the prizes, then obviously anyone can join in ;) I think if you can find a good bulk deal you could persuade enough people to join in a simple Growout

Wouldn't be my first rodeo here. I do believe host gets to pick rules. These grow outs started without a membership requirement. But again, I don't want to host it..... At all. Been there done that. Getting sponsors involved, getting prizes donated, getting large colony, fragging colony, controlling polyp count to ensure everyone starts even, monitoring competition, distributing prizes.....
