  1. dont pop them, just pull them out with water changes. Might need to increase your wc schedule too. The best way to rid yourself of them is manual removal (not breaking) and running gfo. Emerald crabs do eat them but only after they eat the other stuff they like. Fox Face also eats them. Popping them just releases all the spores creating more algae.

  2. As far as bulb color to go with, since you dont have supplements, would be 20k. Its a crisper bluer light that will bring out the best colors. To get a feel for what you really want, check out some tanks that are running similar colors. I love the 20k but others may think that its too blue. I also like the 14k but it doesnt bring out the colors as well. I guess it all depends on what you like to look at.

  3. Im not sure if I can bow hunt anymore since I screwed up both my shoulders. Rifle season doesnt have to be that long..... I only plan to hunt one day a year. I actually dont think Ive hunted more than 12 hours a year since I ETS'd.

  4. Let me know..............

    Indeed I will.

Jess just informed me that a small city' date=' she can't remember where, has taken over the title of more strip clubs per capita, by virtue of the fact that it is very small, an has 6 strip clubs. Portland still has a crap ton of em though, an new ones are opening up all the time LOL.[/quote']

but do they have hundreds of pretty woman or a few ugly ones? My SO dont like ugly ones.

  5. We ran 2x250 over a 55 flat for coral grow out and it did just that.... corals grew like mad... the lights were about 24" from the surface of the water and the corals were 6" under. Most had fast growth but had very little color. It seemed like the only things that colored up well were the montiporas sitting on the bottom. I agree with everyone saying 250w is too much for a 46. Go with 2x150 (12k-14k) with T5 supplements.

  6. So we are still a week away from my wifes interview in Portland but this past Saturday my LRC had a frag swap. I took a cooler FULL of frags to get rid of but ended up coming back with a cooler full of new corals... Im not doing very good at emptying a tank.

  7. Obviously you don't have kids yet.......

I asked my wife to trade... I go out and get a full time job...... she could stay home....... i got that look....that stare.... she laughed...... said something on the line of "cold day in hell"......stared again, and walked out of the room.

  8. if you want to do something like this but in a different more green way, do a captive breeding contest..... pick a hardy wild caught fish..... something that isnt already a mated pair..... something that isnt already being bred in captivity.. See who can get their fish to pair up and breed in their tank. All the while doing a journal on the progress. The successful winner could win a free school of the first fry, and a membership to Marine Breeding Initiative. All the losers receive a single baby from the winner as well. Doesnt this sound like fun?

If not, we can come up with a new drinking game and do a tank tour.

  9. Thanks for all the warm welcomes.

As far as good shops go around this area, there are a couple, and there are also some bad ones. Some places are trying to sell beer bottle corals at champagne prices and others actually are able to give support and advise. The nice thing is we have local places to buy bulk dry goods which is very helpful. Sometimes you need it immediately and cant wait for BRS to ship it. The other nice thing about the Bay Area is there is a huge population of Asian people that go on vacations to their homeland. Usually they bring back nice corals they find while scuba diving. It is very common to have corals that nobody else has. I have a few in my tank that I want to be able to have again after I move.

I will be super excited if this works out and we end up moving to your necks of the woods. Hopefully this job pans out lol. I am looking forward to having my dream setup and meeting new people to help me put it together. I heard you all are cheap labor (work for beer/steak) which is very nice to have around.

How are the stay-at-home dad activities up that way? Are there things to do so I dont have to be stuck at home all day? Are any of you stay-at-home parents?
