a blonde naso around 6-7 inches
hippo tang around 4-5 inches
sail fin tang around 3 inches
powder blue tang around 4-5 inches
2 baby b&w clowns
3 blue chromis
midas blenny
dusky blenny
and a diamond goby
do you think im over my limit?
I have a 200DD also... love the tank - my stock list used to look almost EXACTLY like yours but lost the powder blue to ick. Loved the midas.. before he jumped... hope you have a good cover on there!
I still have yet to do the DIY covers with the screen frames and the netting from BRS... but definately is on the list before I add any more 'jumpers'

On most forced air furnace in new homes, have to have a timmer on them that turns the fan on and off every few hours. This allso should pull fresh air in from outside so as we doin't kill our selfs from lack of good air.
The timer should be on the side of the furnace.
A little update: I set the timer on my furnace so that the fan only comes on for 15 minutes every hour. Also opened up the fresh air damper on the furnace little bit more so that it pulls in more fresh air in from outside when the furnace fan kicks on. This has brought down the humidity in the house in two days from 50% to 31%. No more condensation on the windows!
Also, this must have raised the oxygen level in the house. I was having a minor ph problem on the tank with it being a little too low. Now 8.3 in the day and 8.15 at its lowest point just before lights on.
Maybe I won't have to shell out $$$ for a dehumidifier!

Holy cow! That is why that timer is on thes side of my furnace? Ok....just went and played with that. I think I have it set up now to come on 15 minutes every hour. Also opened up the damper thing on the furnace to allow it to pull in more of the outside air. I wonder if that will help?

It is a new problem that has started with the colder weather, but this is also the first winter since that I have the 200 gallon tank set up.

It has me puzzled a bit. I am having problems with the windows sweating. Live in a newer construction home, so the windows are pretty well insulated (doubled panes with the gas inside). My little weather station also tells me the inside temp and humidity. Just looked at it, 70 degrees inside and 50% relative humidity.
Primarily in the winter I heat with a pellet stove. I thought about the idea of running the furnace fan just to circulate the air around the home. Have it running now and will probably leave it on all night and see if that helps.
Oh, also, tank is a 200 gallon DD that is in the 'formal' living room. It evaporates exactly 2 gallons a day, everyday whether it is summer or winter. Not an expert by any means, but that doesn't seem like an excessive amount of evaporation.
What about you guys with large tanks and enclosed fish rooms? Do you guys have any moisture problems?
-
Do any of you know what the relative humidity is inside of your homes where your tank resides? How much humidity does the tank add to the air inside your home? With the colder weather, does anyone have problems with the windows in your home 'sweating'?
I realize there many factors to this: tank size, evaporation rate, etc.... Just asking to see if others have any excess humidity problems.

I had a TON of those in my tank, although they never got that large. They would go through cycles where you would see hundreds on the glass...would go away for a while then would take off again. Dont have any now. I assume that my six line ate them. I have never seen him do it, but they are all gone now and my six line is extremely fat (and pretty dang mean now...)

Tank looks great!
And I love the Mark Twain quote in your signature!

Is the Marcorock you bought the Key Largo stuff or Figi?? I was gonna put a order in with them because of free shipping on the Key Largo.
This is the Key Largo rock. This stuff is really light! Almost doubles in weight after it soaks up water

Very cool setup. Keep the pics coming. Looks like you tiled a spot in your living room just for the tank?[/quote
I did put the tile in just for the tank. I think it looks better that way and is easier to clean up minor drips and spills. The main reason I did that though, is if we ever decide to replace to carpet in that room we dont have to break the tank down to do so.

Great looking tank!! I love those dimensions. What kind of light are you running?
I have also had green coralline algae, that was the first that showed up on my rocks in my nano as well. There absolutely is green coralline algae.
Smann - i've got 50lbs of BRS eco-rock in a bin now. Hopefully in a month or so we can both find out how it does
Thanks for all the compliments. I could probably use some more CUC. Only have about 40 assorted snails... 40 assorted hermits and 2 big Zebra turbos now... could use a handful of Mexican Turbos I think.
For lighting I am running 2 250W Radiums on Lumitek 250W/400W switchable ballast and have them housed in Lumenmax Elite reflectors. I wasnt sure if the 250W would be enough and that is why I went with the switchable ballasts... If I ever want to upgrade to 400W, then I just get new bulbs and turn the knob ... I like that the 250W dont cause too much heat in the tank. I dont run a chiller, just have a clipon fan on the back of the canopy that is set to come on at 78.5... temp never gets over 79.
Also have 2 46.5" VHO actinics and 3 Lunar lights. Everything right now is being controlled by a Aqua Jr controller.
Overall this was a pretty big step up from our Biocube!
Addicting hobby isnt this??? (nutty)

I'd like to know more about the rock' date=' I'm thinking of getting the dry rock from BRS. I plan to put in tubs for about a month. did the algae start once you got it in the tank under light?. I was thinking of also using light while its cycling[/quote']
I had it under halide lights ever since I put water in it. Had some brown cyano on the sand in the beginning...had just a little fuzz on the rocks when the tangs went in but they cleaned that off almost overnight... green only started a week ago... maybe just a little longer.
Like I said... I think it is the start of coraline... maybe I am wrong... but hope not

Did you cycle your Marcorock at all?
Looks like your having the same issue I did. Algae.
I love the marcorock, have it in both my tanks. But there was defiently some algae issues associated with it. I fought hair algae in my main tank for 8 months or so. But only for a couple months in my 55. Mine is all purpled up now and crawling with life.
Love the tank. Mines a marineland also, been really happy with it.
If your tank is not covered watch out for that midas blenny. Their jumpers.
That is 175# of rock and 160# of sand. I havent had any problems with hair algae in the display although I did find a spot of it about the size of a dime in the overflow.
Dont claim to be an expert, but the lime green on the rocks is the start of coraline I believe. At least that is how it started in my Nano. The green color just came about this last week after adding some coraline encrusted stuff from my Nano.

yes - it is up and running... just trying to get more pics up of the process...
About 2 days after getting water in it... took awhile for it to clear up..
Here is what it looks like today
Now for some of the livestock..

Blonde Naso
Scopas Tang
Firefish X2
6 line
Also have a powder blue tang and a royal gramma that are being to camera shy right now...
Bubble coral
Sebae Anemone
Rics
Coco Worm
Zoas
Birds Nest
Credit for all the photos and rockscaping go to my wife... she has the 'creative' eye in the family.

what are the deminsions of the tank' date=' it looks deeper (not height) than most. I'm thinking of going to 30" on my next tank maybe more. 72x30x24h[/quote']
This is 48x36x27.... love the 3 feet of depth with this... lots of rockscaping possibilities

About 2 months ago I started the build of a 200 gallon Marineland Deep Dimension. In hindsight I wish I would have documented so much more of it! I did take a few pics and thought I would share them....
I decided to go with Marco Rock dry rock since I could seed it with some live rock that I already had...
very pleased with this rock... very light and porous.
Here is what 175 pounds looks like all spread out
My first fish.....
Some rockscape....

does anyone have lighting suggestions? Would 2 250watt Metal Halide be enough for that deep of a tank? Or will I be looking at 400 watt? If I go 400 watt am I also going to need a chiller? (my house has AC... never gets above 74 in the house)

I have been a member here for a few months probably... but have been a lurker. I currently have a 29 gallon Biocube and am hooked!
I should have read/researched more before starting and gone with something a little larger for the first tank.
I think I read something about dilution being the solution to pollution?... something like that.... well I am ready for some big time dilution! My wife and I really like to Marinland Deep Dimension tanks and are very close to pulling the trigger on the 200 gallon model.
Anyone else here have these tanks? Suggestions? Recommendations?

Dry Rock....Bulk Reef Supply or Marco Rocks?????

When I set up my 200, I got 200 pounds from Marco Rocks. When I bought you could specify sizes and/or shapes and he would try to pick through and give you what you asked for. Did pretty good about giving me what I asked for. Even gave me some longer flat pieces to make some bridges with. Good stuff and no bad hitchhikers!
