  1. Hello everyone. We have had some family matters come up and we must move back to Kansas. For us to pay for the move we must sell our car. Here is the information: 1996 Pontiac Grand Prix SE 2door coupe $1500OBO - Clean title, 189,702k (mostly highway miles), 3.1 V6, int. and ext. in good shape, drives very well, no stereo, air conditioning and muffler brand new, fairly new tires, teal color. We cannot take the car with us and we really need the money. Any reasonable offers will be considered. We appreciate the help and we will miss you all.(sad)

  2. Dear Southern and "other" Oregonians,

    I just cruised by The Nautilus in downtown Springfield and if you haven't been in you should stop by. They have a fairly good selection of fish and corals and the customer service is top notch. Aaron (the owner), is a great guy to chat with and loves to strike up a conversation. He can get almost anything in you are looking for with very competitive prices. Swing by and check it out. Oh, he just got a cool mural painted on the outside of the building so it's almost impossible to miss.

    Here are a few pics (sorry about the quality)

  3. I don't think it's your water parameters. Those corals need a constant supply of food to keep alive and absolutely minimal light if it is non-photosynthetic. The first problem was probably lighting. If it gets the smallest amount of algae on it's tissue the polyps cannot open. This is the reason why it needs darkness. The other reason was probably food. Like most marine organisms they feed constantly throughout the day. This one in particular gets stressed easily if it's requirements are not met. You can clean off the algae with a light brush. But the receding tissue is difficult to grow back. Sorry about your loss.

  4. What a small world. My wife and I just moved out here from Kansas. If you are familiar with Wichita you probably know Rick and Tonya and Old Town Aquarium and Lynne at Sea Dreams. Congrats on your husband getting a job with Nike but I feel your pain being this far away from family. Have a safe trip here.

  5. Man..what can I say...The tank looks WICKED!!! Love the rockwork' date=' the macroalgea in the tank...everything...it really looks like you put alot of work and thought into it and it SHOW!...Really truely an amazing tank...(clap)[/quote']

    Thanks a lot for the wonderful comment. I will pass it on to my wife as well.

  6. Funny story. . . Our sand bed was looking a little crummy so we decided to get a diamond goby. Huge, I mean HUGE mistake! We have sugar sand and within a day our entire tank was covered including the seahorses. They kept looking at us through the glass like "[language filter] Mate?" After several days the cloud settled but everything was still covered. It wiped out our macro, most of the corals, and pissed off the horses. We spent weeks trying to dust the rocks and corals off and finally gave up and let the goby dominate the tank. Weeks then months passed and the tank looked worse and worse until we said "ENOUGH with you mister diamond goby!" There was no way I was going to catch him with a net, so I did some research and found a bottle. I am sure all of you are on the edge of your seats. :) I cut the top quarter of the bottle off inverted it inside the remaining portion and placed some food in it. The bottle slowly filled with water and sunk to the bottom. Within 4 days we caught the little bugger. Woohoo! I never thought a water bottle could be turned into a effective fish trap. I hope you all enjoyed our tale of turmoil, destruction, and ultimate victory.

  7. That's crazy!! I am glad they are such a help!! Bravo Newhouse!! I heard heather is the one that actually did it! LOL!!

    Clay

    Actually it took all three of us. Jess held the flashlights, Heather opened him up with the ear ring, and I held him still while pushing on his belly. It was the weirdest thing I have every experienced. We opened him up and pushed on his belly and lots and lots of bubbles came out. I hope he gets better. Jon, that's the last time we come over to watch a movie. We show up and are immediately put to work. Jk buddy! Anytime!:D

  8. I have a 15g running in our bedroom. Here are the specs;

    Lighting-250 MH with ARO ballast (the canopy is open top and suspended above tank)

    Flow-mp10

    Filtration-Large CPR aqua fuge with built in skimmer (9w light on reverse cycle)

    Temp control - 250w stealth heater

    I went pretty extreme on the lighting and heater but I found it works really well. I have a fan built into the canopy to cool the tank but never used it. With the open top and bottom it transmits no heat. I was very surprised to say the least. The heater I have found to work much better than the small ones. If the temp drops it only takes a second to heat back up. I have found this to be much more stable. Temp only fluctuates .5-.8 degrees. Everyone always talks about cooking their tank but I believe a small one could be just as faulty as a large one. (Just my 2cents) The tank is housing SPS with a few small fish (Flasher wrasse, rainford goby, flaming prawn goby) Everyone seems to be doing great and the corals are growing out nicely. I guess it goes to show that anything is possible. :) Oh, the tank has been up and running for about 6 months. Cheers!
