  1. I am not sure what the Garf method is but I have a heavy bioload with plentiful feeding in my 65 gal tank -mostly large polyp stony and soft coral. For months my small skimmer wasn't working ( I am not much of a mechanical tinkerer) I am surprised at how healthy my tank is. I have adjusted the skimmer more regularly but it still just collects skum slowly. ( I hate it when the slight adjustment causes fast fill up and overflow). Anyway because of my biologic tinkering tendencies I have several biologic filtration experiments connected to my system. I am not promoting what I have done I just did it and would change some things next time but is interesting how well my system seems to run. I have a 15 gallon above tank refusium with off brand miracle mud and sand 1.5" bed with macro algae. My show tank has a 2" coral sand bed with light to medium water flow. Then here's the potentially embarrassing part, my sump has a plenum/aragonite bed under all of the equipment. The equipment is sitting on a raised egg crate platform. I have a korallia pump circulating the water in the sump to keep detritus moving. I usually lay low on this forum and try to glean knowledge from others. I do like to hear of other peoples experimentation and experiences.

  2. I had a couple of green clown gobies at separate times that just seemed to vanish also. Later I tried again when I had a larger tank with some sps corals and bright lighting. That little guy responded very well and was always a fun show hanging out on the stony corals. The latest one had also been added to a full tank of fish and fit right in.

  3. I am glad I kept my 65 gal soft coral tank when I was downsizing during the past year of financial trouble. I always enjoy seeing the subtle changes in the different corals and wondering why one is shriveled up a bit while others are puffed up and happy etc. My tank seems very happy overall and that makes me feel good. I enjoy reading about everyone's reef experiences on this site.

  4. I have a 20ish gallon above tank refusium with a sand bed and caulerpa. It empties into a 60 gallon heavy bioload tank. I will post pictures when I re-figure out how to get back on photobucket. Anyway, my refusium has tons of copepods, amphipods, various worms and snails etc. I have always been concerned about the number of red/rust colored flat worms that I get. I never see them in my show tank due to several types of wrasses I think. I was going to treat with flatworm exit as I have done before, but was hesitant as I noticed shriveled up bristle worms last time I used it ( I followed a hobbyists advice and used a heavier dose to kill them all). So I was afraid about killing more than flat worms. I recently heard about the nudibranch that was known to eat flatworms so I purchased one at a local Portland store. He/she immediately moved along the front glass slurping up flatworms. I was curious to see the rate of consumption to see if it would run out of food or if it needed something more than the particular type of flatworm in my system. It has been a week and the nudibranch is quite fat there are still plenty of flatworms for food. It has to work for them throughout the caulerpa. It seems to stop eating and rest periodically whether light cycle or dark. I thought this info might be interesting

OOps I have a feeling that I need more schooling on coral identification. Is my picture a favia? I was going off of the first picture in this thread-looks similar. but after seeing all the other posts I actually took a moment to look in my aquarium corals book.

  6. P1020468_2.jpgI love this coral. I've had it for about 1.5 years in my 120 gallon with dual 400w 12k metal halides. All summer long I have cut the halide light down to about 6 hours with two actinic fluorescent bulbs on for the whole 14 hours. while the halide lights are off, or at feeding time the coral puts our cool white ,short, feeders. While the bright lights are on it stays bright orange. Its size is 6" diameter. I am downsizing and need to say good bye. I am also wanting at some point to sell the tank and other inhabitants.
  7. P1020485.jpgP1020483.jpgP1020484.jpg[/img]The tank is an odd size 30" wide, 20" tall and 18" deep. It is pre=drilled with two 1/2' holes and two 1" holes along the upper back of the tank. It has simple overflow and return plumbing, and a temporary sump setup-as I was using it for a temporary transfer tank. I am not sure how many gallons it is-just the tank dimensions. The stand and canopy are clean looking light oak. The canopy has a four 24" t-5 lighting set up- with two cords. The canopy has two front lift doors + the lid lifts for larger rock etc. asking $300. The pictures show livestock and rock that are not intended to be included.

    Thanks,

    Leonard

  8. P1020481.jpgP1020480.jpgP1020482.jpg[/img][/img]]I have a Cube Master nano cube never opened for sale. I bought it based on the set up on the front counter of Rose City Aquarium. Steve at RCA said their mini reef had been doing great for months. I was impressed so I bought one. It has been sitting in the garage for months so hopefully someone will put it to use. $75.00 (SE Portland)

    This item has been sold.

    Thanks, Leonard
