The presentation you describe, Holly, is at least insensitive, uncouth and unappetizing -- but so is your anthropomorphism. Maybe the lobster liked it. Point is, you cannot possibly know, so feeling sad or sympathetic in this situation is a waste of your emotional energy.

I have a small glass tank (I think it's 30 gallons) not set up, but I want a much bigger one. A couple of years ago when I moved to Portland from Phoenix I had to break down my 65 gallon FOWLR. Now I'd like to get something around 100g and use the small one I've got for QT. I plan to go barebottom w/faux sand bed, lots of flow and a big skimmer. I am in the learning/planning stage right now; I hope to acquire knowledge, tank and equipment at a steady rate for a few months, then start cooking some rock. As opposed to the last time I started this endeavor, I will be taking my sweet time, and looking for bargains in the form of used equipment. And I think I'll start FOWLR with an eye towards going reef as the tank (and my salary) develops and matures.

Just found out today, I passed the bar exam. Not that anyone here should care -- I'm just shouting it from the rooftops! Maybe now I will be able to afford this hobby! Any other lawyers here?

While those groups debate, I believe it is clear that we cannot disarm America, that criminals will get guns even if we tried to do so, and that had this guy known for a fact that Virginia Tech security personnel carried loaded firearms, he may have thought twice about what he did. Or, considering he was obviously criminally insane and suicidal, if security or others did have loaded firearms, maybe this pr!ck could have been stopped, lives could have been saved.

BTW, I am not a member of the NRA, but I am a member of the ACLU. My opinions, however, are my own. Maybe, as Chris Rock has proposed, bullets should cost $5,000 each. Then they wouldn't be sprayed around so indifferently.

I hope the friends and families of Cho's victims can find some solace at some point in their lives.

The Rhinecanthus assasi (Assasi trigger or Picasso trigger) is described as being mild-mannered when small, but increasingly belligerent with age/size. I would think the toby could hold its own if you introduced it at the same time as a small Picasso. The Bluejaw trigger is known as one of the less aggressive triggers, so it shouldn't bother the Hawaiian whitespotted toby (or other fish) too much. This, however, is based on reading about these fish, not experience. And the tobies are fin-nippers, so . . . ? Your 125g should be large enough and, if it has plenty of nooks and crannies for hiding/escape, these fish would probably do well together in a fish-only tank. I'll leave it to others to speak on the wrasses; just thought I'd share what I read about the triggers and tobies.

Not doubting at all, just curious: how could those herbicides wipe out your tank. I mean, aside from toxicity to your livestock, how did they get in there?

Have fun getting back into this crazy "hobby." (More like lifestyle, if you ask me.)

Also consider the Yellow Rose Antenna Goby, which can be obtained rather inexpensively, and/or the Flaming Prawn Goby, which is very expensive and harder to come by. Both are awesome looking fish!

I'm curious as to which puffer you selected for your tank. I would think the Arothron hispidus would do well in a 125g, given the potential tankmates you describe. But I am no expert. Other choices may be better.

It is mentioned in Robert Fenner's book as having much of the personality of larger puffers, and as being hardy and relatively peaceful (though an invertebrate nibbler and fin nipper). Please update when you get a chance.
