  1. Really like it!

As Andy said, I just got one of these last week, coupled with a Lumen Max HQI pendant. I upgraded from a several year old Hamilton 250 HQI ReefStar. Even running at the 250 watt mode, the new setup was obviously brighter.

Oh, I am running a 250 HQI Phoenix 14K bulb. I ran on the 250 (non-HQI) setting for three days just to allow some time for the corals to adjust, and am now using the 250 HQI setting, which is noticeably brighter than the 250 watt setting.

The ballast as it came does not have a way to dim over time. It has a knob that allows you to adjust the output to the 4 preset settings (250, 250 HQI, 400, and Super Lumen).

The instructions specifically state not to run your bulbs above their rated wattage, but out of curiousity, I have switched the ballast to the 400 and super lumen settings with the 250 watt bulb, and tried it for a couple minutes (insert legaleze here stating do not do this, and if you do it is not my or PNWMAS responsibility... (nono) ) It did work, and was wow bright!

I am very happy with it!

  2. I've been using aquacontrollers for nearly 10 years, and they have been working great for me. The software is not the greatest, and connectlivity to a PC is via a serial port, but it controls my heater, cooling fan, main tank light (with length of daylight changing as seasons change), sump light, moonlight (with dimming and time of day changing automatically), main return pump (turns off and on for feeding), and my powerhead (on during the day, off at night). I orignally used X10 modules with my first Aquacontroller, and now have an AC jr using the DC8. I monitor PH, but do not use it to trigger any actions, although it could if you were using Kalk or similar.

I haven't used the RKE, but I have heard it is pretty nice, has better software, and uses USB connectivity to talk to the PC.

  3. Price Drop! Prices Updated!

    Hi,

I have broken down a four tank system, and am now selling the tanks, sumps, and lights, some of which I never got around to using. I have simplified down to one tank, Spectra's (by R-3) 90 gal that was on here a few weeks ago. Send me a PM if you are interested.

    Thanks!

  5. Just wanted to chime in. I have two pair of the black ocellaris, and a pair of yellow stripe maroons. They each have their Rose BTA. No eggs yet, but Thanks to JManrow, I have rotifers and phyto. Hopefully they will get busy sometime...

  6. Hi,

I've got four of them from Dr. Foster's and Smith's, and they are doing well. I have had them for over a year. When they are juveniles, they are dusky orange and white, and as they mature all the orange becomes black.

They have become two pairs, and both sets are hosting in Rose Bubble Tipped anemonies. No eggs yet, but I keep watching!

Good luck! I had to keep checking back with Dr. Fosters until they became available.

    Sincerely,

    Jim

  7. Hi Holly! Welcome! I have heard that Xenia is suspected of absorbing Phosphate as a nutrient. You might try that. I can try to get a small piece of mine off, and bring it to the meeting for you if you are interested.
