  1. ya, i am actually seeing new growth tips on my caps and lots of encrusting on all my corals. Its great. I have no idea if it was simply the feeding heavily or the additives. Im not going to change a thing now.
  2. Izzypop, any updates from you and your testing? I have seen significant improvement.
  3. That is really annoying... im sure aqua safe knows about this issue. Isnt the whole point to have 0tds? Regardless, ill just take off the GAC, no big deal.
  4. Miles, I am thinking of mounting my DI cartridge vertically also. I have read that it prevents "channeling" but I am not sure if it is necessary. I feel a lot more comfortable with the RO/DI unit even though my TDS out of the tap is something like 65.
  5. aqua safe maximus 100gpd with the storage tank. Cranks out a fair amount of water.
  6. Thanks, Ill try and blast if it doesnt work out it goes.
  7. will do. Its just a matter of finding a job now!!!
  8. I just bought a six stage RO/DI unit. The last stage of the unit is a GAC(granulated activated carbon) and has a TDS of 1-2 but when i test water before the GAC it has a tds of 0. Should I be worried about this? Is the GAC adding some particulates back to the water? I thought it might just be the meter but why would it read less TDS on supposedly less pure water?
  9. That makes sense...my pH has been falling a bit. THanks
  10. Does it make a difference if you drip your effluent under water or let it drip into the tank? Ive been reading over at RC and have run across several people who say you really should drip it above water. So whats the deal?
  11. update: I want polyp extension like this: http://reefcentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=814505 party seriously...I bought some Salifert Amino Acids and dosed this morning. I have to say in all honesty that I have more polyp extension. Perhaps my eyes are playing tricks on me, but im dead serious. Its just a matter of nutrients.
  12. Roger you must stop posting things like this. It makes me want to go back to school AGAIN and teach middle school science. I think I will still be able to do quite a lot with the younger buggers and a reef tank though.
  13. krux, what kind of water changes are you doing? I mean percentages. I have been reading on whether large or small water changes are better....just curious what you do. I have been doing large water changes, but im not sure about it.
  14. this is why I hate sand beds...chemistry. Couldnt i just use some phosban instead of doing all of this? Im all about low maintenance.
  15. would stirring up the sand do any good or will it only help to remove? Also, when you remove it can you reuse it? Just another cost for the tank I dont want to fork over. shawn, i added several new frags. They are all doing well after three days.
  16. ya..nadda. THings are looking up with sand, heavy feeidng and trace element supplement. STill not great but looking better. Im going to do several fairly large water changes this month also to try and replenish any lost trace. We shall see. This whole thing is weird. First four months of the tank, every growing like crazy. Since then nothing! Annoying to say the least.
  17. mine is about 5 hours with actinics on for 11 hrs.
  18. ya i understand the principle but the whole point for us is to increase nutrients. no?
  19. So along the lines of swapping sand out what is the poing besides nutrient export? I thought we all wanted nutrient import, hence the sand. Wont you just kill off a lot of pods and critters by switching the sand? How often are you planning on swapping? I just plan on stirring my sand a couple times a week. PS. wasnt me
  20. I have always liked damsels. Amazing colors but goodness they are mean, not to mention impossible to catch. Ive never heard of anyone else having a damsel tank, you could be the first. It would be cool to have a bunch in a reef tank.
  21. Im so happy i added sand. I forgot how glorious it is. It makes the tank so much more illuminated. I love it.
