Chindo
Hey guys Had a question... I got a 30gal tank and its getting a little crowded I was wondering if i could run everything out of a 5gal bucket including my Marineland Penguin filter and heater and soon my protein skimmer??? I guess it would be like a Sump type of thing.... Sorry if it sounds like a real NOOB question but thats cause it is..lol....
gradth
No reason you cant. You could always go pick up a 10 gallon tank at petco as well, there like 10 bucks.
Chindo
would i have to run an overflow box or should I just drill a little hole a few inches under the waterline to cut the suction
jgf86123
You'll need to either drain the tank, drill it for an overflow and return, or, get an over flow box and return over the top, I suggest the drill option, as the overflow boxes can lose siphon. You'll also need to pick up a return pump and what not, if that's what you're looking at doing, instead of modding that tank, have you looked into upgrading to a 75 or so? grassi
Be sure that the heater is not gonna melt the plastic bucket when on
Chindo
That is a good point of the heater melting plastic.... I want to upgrade but gotta convince the wife first and that's not always easy
Barelycuda
I would recommend a small tank like a 10g. They are inexpensive and will work better for you than a bucket. I would also drill the tank for the drain rather than an overflow box.
