Mitchell
It started off in one spot and is spreading to multiple spots. It is the black stuff on my rock in the pictures.
grassi
Cyanobacteria, algae, sponge... I can't tell from the pics. Describe it better. Does it detach if you blow with a turkey baster?

Does it detach if you blow with a turkey baster? It is definitely not cyano, it is like the rock itself is turning black. Nothing happens when I blow it with water. I can't feel anything when I touch it. Here are some better pics I took with the lights off this morning:
ThePremiumAquarium
Looks to me like various coraline/surface algals. Simply means your rock is starting to mature and will soon begin to look darker all around. The darker the better really.
Saltfinsax
Where did the rock come from? Was it dried or base rock? Was it man made stuff? It looks to me as it was base rock and it is starting to get some kinda algae showing up. As for it being good or bad, you may have to wait till it get bigger to identify it. Mohaynow
Looks like your juvenile rocks are coming of age, I remember when my rocks were just boring white rocks. Now they are more mature and covered with a plethora of life. They grow up so fast.
