Mandinga
I picked up a small T. Maxima a week ago and it just isn't acclimating well. The foot is in great shape, and it seems healthy, but the mantle is only extending about 1/2 of what it was in the LFS. It is currently just above the sand bed, next to some large T. Croceas... flow is medium...Ca is 420, kH 10. The other clams in the tank(all croceas) are extremely happy and healthy, but this little guy isn't opening up fully. Any suggestions? Saltfinsax
Hmm maybe put him close to another clam so he can feel the mantle of another clam. Sounds like you have more clams them I so I am sure your doing the best you can. I know small clams are a little harder to keep.
grassi
How big is the clam?
Mandinga
1.5"-2"...i got him from a LFS who accepted him in trade in...so, it is likely that this is the clams 3rd owner in a short period of time. he is pretty unique because he has a little red shading to his mantle. bill
try to sit him on top of a rock instead of the sand bed see if that will help.
ThePremiumAquarium
+1. Small maximas really do best on the rockwork IME.
