  1. No hit on the water bill. I use the waste water to water the lawn and plants. You can do a lot of clever things with a float valve and a Brute trash can, so you always have a lot of water on hand for maintenance and incase of emergency.
  2. At that rate you are spending $195 a year not including gas and time to drive to the store. If I where you I'd keep an eye out for a used RO/DI. I bought a used RO/Di and a mixing station for $125 and the media on the RO/DI where brand new.
  3. Got an Apex A3 and a Trident so I will be setting that up and some other stuff for this weekend. Calibrate DOS (Ran new lines that are a lot longer) Pull out Calurpa (Taking Algae filter / fuge off line, i don't think its doing anything) Vac detritus in sump, or pull it out and hose it off in the yard (PM schedule) Deep clean skimmer (PM schedule) Swap out GFO & Carbon (PM schedule) Fill auto feeders (PM schedule)
  4. If there where more feed timers those could be repurposed to do pre-programmed things. Calcium = 380 FT12 = Re-Test FT13 = Add 10ml FT14 = Add 25ml Time = 15:00 FT15 = DOS run 1 gal FT16 = DOS run 2 gal FT17 = DOS run 3 gal
  5. With an Apex A3 is it possible to have the Apex ask you questions, that the answer to will preform a function (or not). Example - At 15:00 everyday it'll ask you a yes/no question "Would you like to preform a 3 gallon AWE - Yes / No? or "How many gallons would you like me to AWE = (input XX gallons)? Or "Your Calcium is 380 would you like me to add 45ml of Part B Yes / No" Or multiple choice "Your Calcium is 380" would you like to - Do nothing - Test Again - Add 22.5ml - Add 45ml"
  6. I price corals bases on how fast they grow, if "Jaw Breaker" mushroom anemones grow fast in my tank I'll sell them for $5 each or give away floaters. If Monti cap grows too fast and I have to break pieces off so it doesn't start a fight with its neighbor I give it away. I don't think a fancy made up trade name should command a higher price, IMO if it grows fast or slow for me that's what the price is based on. As for wild collected corals - I agree and I think a person can put together a REALLY nice tank with 100% Aquaculture corals.
  7. I just heard about these on the Reef Beef pod cast and they are certainly on my list when it comes time to upgrade. Based on the spreadsheet data they absolutely destroy my AI Hydras.
  8. I know this is an old thread but Im curious how this went for you? Did the fish make it?
  9. I put this together when I was building my tank. Its a compilation of info from BRS. I can send you the excel spreadsheet if you are interested ( i can't figure out how to attach it to this post).
  10. The one on the right looks super big!
  11. I'm OK with wild corals and fish being expensive, I think it makes people less willing to "Just try it and see if it lives". I was reefing in the late 90's when Yellow Tangs where $25 and PBTs where $40 and I witnessed a lot of fish wasted because someone wanted to "Just try it and see if it lives". I think & hope paying $180 for a PBT will cause folks to do more research and learning in an effort to not waste the life of a wild animal and $180. What do y'all think?
  12. @Eatfrenchfries maybe next spring when it warms up a little I can ship you a cutting, they will be nice a big by then!
  13. I hoping that soon Neptune will release a Trident 2.0 that'll test NO3 & PO4. That's what i'm banking on.
  14. MasterTronic Pros- Tests 5 parameters Is cool tech Cons- Not a US company May not have good support Can only test stuff Not readily avaible Uses some API for some test (Im not a fan of API) Apex A3 w/ Trident Pros- Very good support. US Company. The Apex can do a lot of other stuff (comes with ph probe, temp, leak detection). can sell old Apex for $150. BRS has many in stock. Cons- Less cool factor then Mastertronic (Maybe). Tests only the big 3, so will have to test NO3 & PO4 manually, but that only takes 15 min and once the tank is established should only have to test those 1-2x per week.
  15. I have a cutting available if you are interested. I'm in Bonney Lake Wa.
  16. I made a list of the pros and cons of Mastertronic Vs A3 Apex with Triton and the Apex set up won hands down.
