  1. On mine it was the cable that went from the head unit to the EB832. I went on Amazon and bought a male to male USB 2.0 cable for $3 and have never had the issue again. I have since replaced that same cable on my other 2 apex units.
  2. That and the tension from the original cables hanging with slight tension pulling at them from their own weight over the years.
  3. I have had the same issue. I also have the 2016 units and found that replacing the old aquabus cables resolves it.
  4. I have 3 tanks each with an Apex. Personally, I would absolutely replace mine if it went out. I monitor mine to point to things that could lead to trouble. An example would be a new fish that’s either hiding or dead in my rock work or over feeding and food decaying. I have run ozone in all 3 tanks too but I don’t run it now. I seem to remember when I first set up my Apex that it took a while for the ORP to normalize. I don’t remember how long but I believe it was a couple of weeks or more. Keep that in mind if the readings on yours don’t seem reasonable.
  5. I tried to PM you but it says you are not taking messages.
  6. All of mine had the same issue. Thank you for the heads up!
  7. Interested, please pm me. Your mailbox says you cannot receive messages.
  8. Awesome tank. You guys did a great job documenting everything. Thank you for sharing and for the inspiration.
  9. I use 45ml on my Reefer 350. I use an Apex DOS. It took a while for me to figure out how much to dose so leave yourself enough time to dial it in. My corals thrive using AFR. Like ShoeCrew, I also do 20 gallon water changes weekly.
  10. I had this issue happen a few times. I bought an Apex power supply transformer and now it works perfectly. In my case prior to adding the power supply, I was having low voltage readings on all 3 Apex systems since I run 3 tanks and a huge TV on the same circuit. Now I use the power supply for every Apex.
  11. I have been using the All For Reef powder since October. It took me several weeks to dial in the right amount to use because I was nervous to ramp it up too quickly. I use it on all 3 of my mixed reef tanks and my corals and fish are all thriving. I highly recommend it.
  12. Congratulations! Thank you for all of the helpful information you have provided in your tutorials. I wish you and your wife all the best in the next part of your journey.
  13. Your tutorials are always so helpful. I really appreciate you taking the time to post them. I learn something new and helpful every single time. Thank you very much!
  14. That was incredible. Thank you for finding and sharing the video.
  15. That reef is just amazing. Great job!
  16. I really appreciate these tutorials you have put out. I am about 2 months into using Apex and it was a bit intimidating. Even though I don’t use it at the level you do, these tutorials really help for everything I do use it for. Thank you very much!
  17. I thought only freshwater evaporates so how can it be saltwater ruining the split mini? Hopefully there is a technician on this forum who can weigh in. If a 40 gallon tank could do such damage, I would think most of us with electronics under our tanks and in our homes would also be affected. Hopefully the school can get a second opinion.
  18. After reading through your information twice and reading all the comments, I believe that Higher Thinking may have hit on the problem which is a piece of your equipment leaching something into your water. I have read about this on another website where others had this problem. Of course that’s just my opinion but if it was my tank that’s where I would start. To me it makes perfect sense since you had a lot of success running your tank before this occurred.
  19. Thanks to your post it’ll be happier now. I broadcast feed but I’ll feed it directly. Thanks again!
  20. Thank you for identifying this in your post. I bought some coral pieces from a fellow member and a small piece of this was included. I had no idea what it was. I had it under medium to strong light until read your post and it has never really thrived. I can’t wait until it gets used to its new low light spot and I can see it open up properly. I just love learning from everyone on this website. Thank you again!
  21. I never used metal tongs nor did my hands actually go into the tank beyond dragging the shrimp across the top of the water. It’s the same idea as knuckledragger said above. Just try to get him interested in the food by seeing it move. He might still be scared of you at this point. I’ve never had them go after me. While they are aggressive with food they seem to be smart about staying away from your hand unless they are cornered. To your point about eels and metal tongs, eels can be much more aggressive depending on the type and tongs are prudent in some cases. I’ve had zebra eels that are really friendly like a real pet that you can literally hand feed and I’ve had some eels that would love nothing better than to snack on my digits even when they are full. Give your lion a little time and this food transition will be easy. You’ll be laughing when you see him trying to eat everything you drop in.
  22. I always had success transitioning Lionfish from live foods to freshly peeled raw shrimp chunks. You need to get the Lionfish comfortable eating in front of you and eating regularly first. I would buy medium sized raw shrimp with the shells on and then I would peel the shell off right before feeding appropriate sized chunks of shrimp. After I got them eating the shrimp they would then eat anything and everything I offered to them. I only used the raw shrimp with the shells during the transition. I had several over the years and this worked every single time.
  23. I also left my LRS Reef Frenzy out overnight once and I didn’t like the smell of it in the morning but froze it again. After thinking about it I realized that for me it wasn’t worth the risk to my corals and fish and I tossed it on trash day.
  24. That is awesome. It’s great you were able to capture it so well. Thanks for sharing!
