  2. Awesome, thanks Bill and Chris! I cut out the pieces today and will finish building it this weekend. I'll post pictures as it cures for the next few weeks.
  3. LoL... Noted Tapatalk, because my computer don't go there.
  4. So, I'm setting up a whole new 40B. I've learned a good bit and want to implement some many things, just made sense. One of the things I plan on doing is drilling my tank and plumbing it for the sump below. Researching overflow boxes on Amazon was easy, tons of items came up. However, when I talked with a LFS person whom I've turned to more then a few times told me, "the longer your overflow box is the more surface area that can be skimmed which is what you want". Looking at the Amazon items, and the cost of a 30" box vs ordering acrylic and doing it myself, well, Amazon lost. So my acrylic get here tomorrow and I figured I will ask the great people of PNWMAS what their thoughts are. I have the ability to make a 30" long x 6" tall x 4" deep with plenty of extra acrylic to modify (make bigger) if desired. My question is this, is it true the larger skimming surface the better, or is there a point that you reach "maximum skimming" and anything larger is wasted? Thanks for any and all help... Ready. . . . GO! Tapatalk, because my computer don't go there.
  5. I cleaned the tank yesterday and added some more live rock. I moved a few pieces around and BAM!!! An Emerald crab was looking at me! I was shocked mostly because I didn't think any of the 3 made it past a few weeks. Never saw them after that, but there this guy was, chilling on the rock that I turned over. Sneaky guy!! Is it usual to have the emeralds disappear once in the tank?
  6. That looks GREAT!!! Mt. Coral!!! Great work, sometimes amazing things come from a little rock fall.
  7. That's a lot of frags!!! I don't have any to swap as I am just starting with corals, but maybe we could work out a deal.
  8. I would enjoy coming down and hanging out! Just getting into corals, so fragging session would be great! I could learn tons and asks all those new guy questions. . . LoL Corvallis is about 5 hours away, so this meeting will most certainly be a weekend trip! Close enough I'd defiantly hit up the coast!! I'm all ears to whatever ends up happening.
  9. I use "Photobucket" for uploading my pictures. It's free to set up an account, just drag the picture from your computer onto the screen, then it give you an "image" link to copy and paste. it will show up as a link as you are working on your post, but once you hit "post". . . your picture/s are there for all to see!!!
  10. Will there be a May meeting or no because of the group elections? I usually work weekends, just wanted to make sure I could request it off if there was one in the works.
  11. I would love this skimmer, it's a GREAT deal!!! But would destroy my little ol' 40B. . . LoL GLWS
  12. Are you willing to sell separate or only as a set? If willing to separate, I would be interested in your skimmer.
  13. I'm willing to buy this and pay for shipping if your willing to pack it up and ship it to me. PM me if your up for this.
  14. That's great! Looking forward to next week!
  15. Hi Shane! I'm no where near your level of knowledge, but excited to learn! Like everyone else, I'm excited to see your set up! I use Photo Bucket to post my pictures, perhaps that would be an easier way to upload them for you.
  16. Welcome Kyle! Sounds like an awesome set up, excited to see it up and running!
  17. I looks like something is on the outside of it, not inside the tube itself which is why I am concerned; but it's the only one I see. So, I have no clue. Would I hurt the polyp if I tried to remove the blob with tweezers?
  18. So what's the new scape look like? Hope it all went together the way you wanted!
  19. What's great, is that the kids see the movie and fall in love with the fish, ocean, and other creatures. It inspires imaginations, raises questions, and creativity. What's sad, is some parents will buy a small tank, filter, light and set it up. Then go to the LFS to buy said "Dory" or "Nemo" and when asked about their tank respond with, "We have a 20 gallon tank. Little Joe is so excited about having Dory home with us." Then "Dory" gets home to find no salt in the water! There's also the chance that some parents will get the set-up on the button; but find it "too much work" to keep up the tank and the kids will not do it either. Slowly the tank becomes a green screen of algae. Then sell it as fast as possible because they just don't want to deal with it any more. I hope the LFS do a lot of habitat inquiring after this movie first comes out. Could save a lot of animals, and could keep the children's imagination going strong until they can and will take care of the tank they really want!!
  20. I am a first time coral papa!! Big thanks to the raffle at the April meeting and those who donated!! I have been so busy with work, checking my levels in the tank, setting up a feeding schedule, researching LEDs, their strength, and putting them on a light cycle that I really haven't just sat down and watched the corals; until today! Just after feeling them, I sit down in my chair and I see this purple blob on one of the polyps. I move closer to the tank wondering if it's just the light, or am I really seeing this thing. I pull out my camera to get a picture of it. I was completely disappointed in my camera when I tried to zoom in and focus. I tried using my phone, with better luck on the zooming in part, it became slightly blurry and bright. So, hopefully, between the 3 pictures, someone out there can tell me what this is and should I be worried? And what to do with it. Here are my water parameters: Temp: 82.1 PH: 8.4 CA: 400 KH: 10.9 MG: 1200 Nitrite: 0 Ammonia: 0 Nitrate: 0 Specific Gravity: 1.022 I'm feeding the polyps every other day; 1/2 teaspoon of "ZoPlan Zooplankton Diet. Julian Sprung's formula" I have a 40B with a 20 gallon sump. The blob in question is on the polyp on the top right. Thanks for any help!!
