  1. What does it mean to be placed on a moderator queue and what is the reason for it?
  2. Didn't this club do very well when it was on Reef2Reef( I think that was where it was) instead of having the overhead and maintenance of its own board. Maybe we should go back to that so we could concentrate on membership instead of tech problems?
  3. Have all of the board members paid? Not all are showing banners.
  4. I have two reasons: 1. The dramatic reduction in paid membership illustrates the poor organizational skill of the current Leadership. When I joined in 2013 I asked what the membership perks were? I was told that there was not really any, but why be a cheap sob? If you can't afford $24 a year you should not be in this hobby. 2. I have always felt this is wrong. I get to pay $24 to listen to somebody who doesn't care enough to help out. This membership issue is really about money. Advertisers and Sponsors don't want their message held to only the 25 members who have paid. So its given away. Why should anybody pay dues?
  5. Are all of the members who have paid for membership showing banners? I see a lot of posters who have not paid and even some board members. With only 25 paid members this year, I am interested in who is and isn't a paying member.
  6. You are the one who made it personal. Ignorant is a very friendly word. Do you really believe at 35 years of age you could beat up a 68 year old man with heart trouble. You must be a hell of a tough person.
  7. I hope I can make it, but my health isn't good right now. Where do you park? I have never gone to Cuttlefish and Corals and been able to find parking. I too just started a nano culture and will be starting rotifers next week.
  8. Are you threatening me? If I come to the next meeting are you going to beat me up? It would be nice if you paid dues if you have so much to say.
  9. Hi Doug, I have ordered many times online and this problem is worse in the Winter. I have had one late shipment and it was due to UPS and not weather.
  10. Oh! I forgot, you should read " The Complete Illustrated Breeder's guide to Marine Aquarium Fishes" by Matthew L. Wittenrich. He is really ignorant.
  11. You are one smooth talking devil. And very ignorant! First I am setting up a breeding facility and tank raised fish are easier to deal with. As to their health, I have listed four articles that will explain the reduced exposure to disease and parasites. If this doesn't cure the ignorance, let me know and I will post another 10 or 20 articles to help finish your education.
  12. If your tank is a display tank in your front room, then you may want an electrical ATO. I have a fishroom and use float valves and have not had a problem in 20 years. Don't use a float valve and try to add anything with the water or it may leak. As for a controller, it depends on what you want. I have some small temperature controllers for a single tank that cost about $100. I also have an APEX system that controls my brood stock system with two 300 watt heaters in the sump.
  13. I will buy only tank raised fish to avoid disease and parasites. Also it is 86 miles one-way to the nearest fish store, and online is cheaper?
  14. I heat my car, my house and my tanks.
  15. I'll take the refund. I would hate to make others think about something new. How many paying customers are left 10-15?
  16. You are really attuned to others opinions aren't you. For my $24 you will get my opinions whether you like them or not. Is this a necessary post? I didn't know they had to be "necessary". Please define a necessary post for me.
  17. We get to vote on where but not on if we think this is an activity we want to support. Why not clean up the Columbia , I don't have a 4 hour drive that way. I didn't think we were a service club, just a bunch of hobbyists raising fish and swapping frags.

    DIY Larval Snagger

I have raised one clutch of clowns back in 1998. Not too much has changed, but the real advances have come in raising pelagic fish like angels.
  19. What was he eating where you got him?

    DIY Larval Snagger

I have 4 breeder tanks one of which is empty. I have the Neon Goby pair, a pair of saddlebacks and a pair of black ocellaris. I have yet to decide what I am going to try in the fourth tank but believe I will try mandarins. I also have a pair of Yellow Neon Gobies in a 135. I am still waiting for the clowns to lay eggs, but the saddlebacks are very close and have turned very dark. The female is huge at about 3.5 inches. So in the meantime, I need to get the rots going, my BRT hooked to a 55 for a sump with a separate heater and skimmer. I designed the BRT based on a research paper I bought. I hope it works as well as the snagger.

    DIY Larval Snagger

Sometimes a plan works out. I have a pair of Neon Gobies and I wanted to raise the fry. They were nested in a piece of live rock and I could never get them both out at once. So I put the rock and both fish in a 20 gal high and began to look for a way to catch the fry if I could not get the eggs. I came across the design you see above. I have installed it on the goby tank with a DIY LED lure that is taped to the front of the tank. The air runs continuously but the lure comes on 30 minutes after dark and stays on for 3 hours. I cleaned and installed the catcher every day for the last two weeks, trying to see when the larva would hatch. This morning I had about 20 larva in the snagger. I will leave it there tonight in case of any late arrivals. But what I know now is the egg cycle. I will do this again the next time they show breeding behavior and I will be able to forecast the larva hatch. I am still in preparation with my food system and I have yet to start the rotifers, but now I can plan a date to try raising the larva.
  22. I made a suggestion for a frag swap before the last PNWMAS officer change. I never heard back. I live in The Dalles and often take visitors to the Bonneville Dam visitor center. They have a large outside picnic area with a lot of grass and covered areas. In addition they have the sturgeon center, the fish hatchery, the fish ladders and dam viewing area and a really nice flower garden to tour. It seems ideal for a family summer afternoon with a variety of activities for the family and kids while we eat and swap frags. We could call it Dam Frags or some such nonsense.
  23. I believe Fusion will work fine with a wireless hook up. It is faster with a cable connection and I am in the basement and would need a signal booster. Its not an issue that would be hard to change later if you want.
