Hey there folks. I am once again cleaning out the aquarium store-room, and I need to let this little tank go. It's in really good shape with nary a scratch on it. This would make a beautiful little pico reef! It's an ADA 30W, Dimensions are 12"x7"x9.5" (LxWxH). Approx vol is 3.5 gallons. High clarity low iron glass. $40. I am in Eugene, OR, but I wouldn't mind driving up to Albany to meet someone.

I'll stick around. I can at least admire reefs through the interwebs, vicariously.

I have a couple of folks in line for the rock/sand. But You are definitely welcome to come snag the sharknose. He's really chill, has gotten comfortable enough with people that he'll eat mysis from my fingers.

Update: All corals called for. Refractometer called for. Both pico skim boxes called for. Media basket called for. Test kits sold. Goby still available Rock and sand still available after everything else goes. That was crazy fast.

As soon as I got it running, I got put in a work situation where I will not be home to care for a reef tank, and my wife wants nothing to do with it. The universe doesn't want me to have a reef tank right now I guess. This is the last straw though.. My employer has done this to me before, and I am going to have a serious chat, and start looking for employment elsewhere. I will hold the refractometer for ya, if you want it.

It's funny.. I finally take the time to post a thread about my tank, and a day later I get some bad news. Without going into it too much, I am going to just throw in the towel on reefing again. It's been rough going from the start, and I am just out of patience with everything else going on in my life. So I guess everything in my setup is currently for sale cheap so I can move it fast. I will post a thread up in classifieds this afternoon when I get home from work.

Just made my way through your thread. Nice work man. I love the light bar you made for the kessel - ultilitarian, but in a very very good way. As far as the hydor goes, if you don't have a sumped system it might not be the best choice. They require a pretty signficant drop in water level before it will fill, so having something using the display water level could cause a pretty significant swing in salinity. The only other system I can really vouch for on such a small system is the tunze nano, as the float switch on that thing is super sensitive. Honestly though, for the price, you could probably put together a ATO from a floatswitch and a relay for waaay cheaper and it would give you the sensitivity you'd need. I agree on the LED. One of many reasons why I recently decided to go back to fluorescents. Though you say that the kessil has pretty good color and no disco effect. That is something that interests me. Do you see any color separation at all? I noticed that almost all of my LED fixtures presented some amount of color separation in the shimmer when there was significant surface agitation. Those are blastos in the second pic right? Where'd you pic those guys up?

Indeed. I actually swapped over to the 11.4 from a standard 10 gallon.. and now that I did it, I am not really sure if I really needed to ,as I think the layout in that tank actually looked better. Every once in a while I get a case of "keeping up with the Joneses" , and I buy something totally unnecessary in regards to the enjoyment of my tank. If anything, the Mr. Aqua tank kind of sketches me out cause it has so little silicone that it looks like it might just fall apart, and it's a weird (17.75" in length) size so finding decent lighting that will work is neigh impossible. I may actually buy an aqueon tank or deep blue tank in a standard length down the road.

Yes and Yes. You can add Tunze, Pico aquariums, Maxspect, and inTank to that list as well. Although I will give it to inTank.. his baskets are freakin awesome.. but it's like your aquaclear or AIO is a raging coral murderer if it doesn't have one. It's funny, I just put up a thread about not really liking the look of most LED setups over there, and specifically asked if anyone had done anything to get a more diffused(like T5 or powercompact) look. Boy oh boy.. they came out of the woodwork to tell me why my preference was wrong Whatever though, it's cool.

Thanks! It was inspired by all the fanboys/girls on "other" forums who are more interested in the equipment than what it keeps alive. I'm the inverse, so it seemed appropriate I managed to talk them down on a ricordea yesterday at aqua serene. So that needs to be added to the list. It's reaaaly upset with me right now, so I will take a picture as soon as it relaxes a bit.

For some reason ikea's website isn't working for me, but the shelf is called "Kallax". Last time I was up there, they had like 4-5 different colors you could choose from, and they are built like a tank.

I posted this a couple of years ago on the a FW forum I used to be an active part of (APE), and with how popular Aquaclear filters are for reefs, particularly nano, I figured some of you would also appreciate this: So, for a while now I've used aquaclear filters for my many years of FW tanks, also for my past few reef tanks.. I have to say that I do despise the rattly sound that every aquaclear filter seems to make. Like an engine with bad rod bearings.. I think I have found a solution to lessen this. Something that pretty much anyone should be able to accomplish with stuff on hand, or easily obtainable from home depot/lowes. What you'll need: White teflon thread tape Silicone plumbers grease (this is safe, used in many many aquarium filter impellers without any issues). First, we are going to be removing the impeller. This is something that should be detailed in your filter manual.. but basically if you are looking at the filter from the bottom, you will grasp the motor and turn it clockwise to free it. This gives you access to the impeller inside the motor housing. Carefully remove the impeller off of the metal shaft. I did it with my fingers, but you can use a pair of needle nose pliers to gently lift it off the thin metal impeller shaft. Be careful! Next thing we are going to do is to gently pop the plastic impeller blades off of the end of the magnet assembly. Once that is done, you should see a small area where the plastic impeller blade obviously attaches to, with a little rib in the middle. Part of the annoying rattling sound is the slop in this plastic piece, which we are going to take up with teflon pipe tape. Get your pipe tape and pull out a small length and fold in lengthwise(hotdog style ). We want the tape to be about the same width as the attaching point of the plastic blades. Give it 1.5 or 2 wraps and pull it tight(this could vary depending on how your specific aquaclear was manufactured). Make sure that the tape slightly overlaps the top edge. Cut your tape and make sure it's going to stay in place, and then place the plastic blade piece back on over the tape. The plastic blades should now be noticeably tighter, with little to no slop. **Make sure you do not use too much tape, as you could break your impeller end. If it seems like the impeller end is not going on, or requires a lot of effort to push on, you have too much tape. Now place a tiny glob of silicone plumbers grease on the end of the impeller shaft with a swab(stuff is impossible to get off of your hands), Place the impeller assembly back on the shaft, spreading the placed silicone grease down the length of the shaft. (heh heh.. I am an adult..) Enjoy your quiet(er) aquaclear! It's worth noting that I generally pull mine apart about every 6 months just to check out the condition of the tape, and to clean everything out. I've had aquaclear filters that are still running great with the original teflon tape after a couple years. I tend to re-grease the impeller shaft every couple cleanings(about once per year). The filter that I used for the pictures is an AC50 Also - the filter will at first probably be dead silent - this is due to the silicone grease acting as a damper. This will eventually wear, and you will hear a little bit of motor noise, but it should be a LOT quieter than stock. I've also used a dab of aquarium silicone on the end of the impeller magnet instead of the teflon tape.. this worked, but it sucks if you want to replace the plastic impeller blade, and it gets all over the place.

When that tank was sitting in my living room, I had it on an ikea cube shelf. It was plenty strong, and they are like 60 bucks.

Figured it was time to post, since I lurk in the shadows on this forum. So.. after having to tear down a freshly setup nuvo 20 due to landlord issues, I've finally got a legit tank running again. When I tore down my Nuvo, I moved all the live sand, rock, etc over to a cheap 10g to keep everything cycled, and bought myself a Mr. Aqua 11.4. I bought this MP10ES from a fellow hobbyist who ran it for a few days and then decided to go a different direction. I got it, ran it in my 11.4, then realized I can't turn it up much past a couple leds before my tank looks like a scene from the movie dune - well, minus the cool blue eyes and spice. This thing has had virtually no runtime - I'd venture to say it's probably got a week at most on it. It has a manufacture date of Sept. 4th, 2014, and I have a receipt from the original buyer that shows it purchased new in March 2015. The dry side still has the little protective film thingy on it even Comes with manual, the adhesive clips to run the cable along the tank edge, zip ties, glass thickness shim, everything you would get new. It doesn't have the box unfortunately, but does have the little plastic thing it came in. Asking $170 - or possibly trade, see below. I live in Eugene - but I can drive and meet somewhere in the middle on a weekend day. It can be picked up any weekday also. Trades: I will consider trades for lighing that I can use on my 11.4 Mr Aqua tank - which means it will need to be able to tank mount to a tank that is ~18" in length. Not really looking for PAR bulb setups though. I also might consider trading for corals (looking for nice ricordea yuma, blastomussa, and I am always up for branching Euphyllias)

Interested in the Yumas, but I am down in Eugene. Any chance you'd be willing to ship em to me? I'm thinking we might be able to get away with priority since you are so close. No worries if no, might not be worth your time.

I'd take the Rics and yuma if you were willing to ship. Vancouver is a bit of a drive from Eugene. You are probably close enough that priority would get here next day. Let me know what you think.
