  1. For sale nano tank its a 16 inch cube with a refugium on the back. Looks to be custom built, needs a little cleaning, comes with the stand $100. Having problems attaching pictures, here is a link to craigslist add https://portland.craigslist.org/clk/for/6014149078.html
  2. I got some pics just have not had time to post, all the work, hunting and mushroom picking taking most of my time will try later this week. Anyone have good ideas on how to take a good pic of the light working? When I try taking a pic of the light working looks just like a flash light; you can't see the intensity. I will try making an HDR pic if I can remember how. Thanks for the offer but it's a bit of a drive from Vancouver, and the seller on ebay said he will send the correct switch. Already thinking on getting a second one, just need to collect some extra cash.
  3. So I finally got mine in and put it all together today. I think that I blinded myself. Got a couple of heat sinks from goodwill one is a little better but has a round copper piece on the bottom that makes it hard to mount the LED emitter, so I used a different one that was just flat on the bottom. have not tested it yet over a tank, the silicone I used to glue the lens and reflector on is still drying. I got the 20K and one thing I noticed from just shining it on a was is it has some color separation the lens focuses the light in strips of blue and yellow (not really yellow but yellower). I'll try to post pics tomorrow. One more thing, the switch I got was a normally open switch so I did not use it, on ebay it said normally closed but testing it works opposite.
  4. Just put in an order for the driver LED 50w 20K and the switch. Now just waiting for the slow boat from China. I will update when it all gets here. So never have seen the LED array do I need a cover on it or is it epoxied over? Without the lens it says 140 degree viewing angle does that sound about right?
  5. Do you have a link to that 50w chip for $21. I am looking at the http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-50W-Actinic-Royal-Blue-Hybrid-Led-Saving-Lamp-Aquarium-Bulb-A-/110758341419?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c9b62b2b and http://www.ebay.com/itm/1pc-50W-White-High-Power-20000K-LED-Lamp-Light-Bulb-HK-/110758435287?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item19c9b799d7 but they are nowhere near $21 mark. What color chips are the ones you mention?
  6. Just though of something on the switches you might want to check the resistance on them first before putting them in line with the LEDs and may need to put them on the 120 line side, just make sure you insulate them well. If they have substantial resistance on them they may mess with you LED driver. Without actually testing them cant tell what the switch may introduce on the LED side. Did you get a data sheet with your driver, If you have one can you post it I would like to see what the load range is like on those drivers. Thanks. When wacky willies closed I was very disappointed, until I found surplus gizmos. I sometime just visit that place to look around, got some moon lights in there one day for like $10 total (led strip and power supply).
  7. There is a store (may be a bit far from Damascus) in Hillsboro, on cornelius pass just north of highway 26, called SurplusGizmos.com and they have loads of all kinds of surplus electronics and heat sinks switches and such. If you are in the area check it out, and the prices are good.
  8. AquaticEngineer, how big was the heat sink you used? It looks like 2"x2" is that about right? I have a couple of large heat sinks that could work and another idea was to wire a thermal switch in line with the LED and mount it on the heat sink so if the fan goes the over temp switch will cut the power. How about using a large aluminum plate to help with the heat. This one looks like it could work 50c normally closed http://www.ebay.com/itm/Thermostat-Temperature-Switch-50-C-N-C-KSD301-7pcs-/160646722256?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item25674a72d0
  9. Just got done reading this thread and my impression that this seems to be too good to be true. Does anyone else get that? Instead of buying a $70 x2 MH bulb every 6-9 month you can get a couple of LED bulbs and save on electricity at the same time. Maybe I am out of the loop on the current trends but I did not read a whole lot on these at other sites and it seems like a pretty big deal? Any results on using these over coral?
  10. Would you separate, I'm interested in the ballast. If you are willing to separate what $ ?
  11. Looking good, did you get the trim worked out yet? need more pictures.
  12. Are you testing the servers? What's the point?
  13. One thing I would worry about is an anti-caking agent usually something like aluminium nitrate or some kind of silicate. - just throwing things out. I'm intrigued. Next time I go shopping I'll look at getting some salt and trying it. If someone bets me to it feel free to share what # you get. Merry Christmas - time to open presents!
  14. Just looked at the pictures and I really need to work on taking better photos. Just don't have the time to do it right.
