  1. hey Garrett....the last picture you posted looks nearly identical to my coral. Thanks
  2. It does look like some photos of goniopora that i've seen. The polyps are really short compared to a lot of them however. I would really love it if somebody had the exact same coral with a pic to share. I've read that it is a difficult coral to keep healthy...is this true? I've only had it for about 2 months and it's growing like a weed without any supplemental feeding or anything so it's hard for me to imagine that would be a touchy coral. Any advice?
  3. Yep...looks like a Creoland Isopod. They can be parasitic and feed on your fish. http://www.nano-reef.com/forums/index.php?showtopic=132956
  4. Nobody can seem to identify this coral that I have. Many say zoanthids but I really don't think so. I've included pics of it with it's polyps extended and retracted. In my experience zoanthids do not look like that when they the polyps retract. As the pics show, it is bright turquoise in color with many polyps that almost disappear when they retract. It also grows very quickly. Anybody?
  5. Yes, the clowns' main residence is the frogspawn but recently they have been exploring the bta. Frogspawn has more living space:-) Yes, that is a pink/purple sponge in front of the mushrooms. It just kind of showed up out of nowhere and is growing like a weed now. Tank is about 8 months old and doing grrrreat. I don't have any kind of fuge modification on it but I have given it some thought. Is the AC70 a pretty simple install? I wouldn't be opposed to it, especially for some additional pod production for the mandarin. Thanks for the compliment! -josh
  6. Here are a couple pics of my 12g nano from bare bones to its completion, which I am soooo proud of:-) Also threw in a pic of my semi-new mandarin. And, before anybody freaks out about an insufficient pod population to keep a mandarin, he eats frozen prepared foods and is fat and happy. Also, I have a pod culture tank that I have set up to suppliment his frozen food diet with live copepods. Anyway, let me know what you think!?
  7. hello folks, Thanks for the replies and compliments!!! Here is a pic of my true percs hosting in my frogspawn. I was not expecting them to do that at all. They completely ignored the bta but looooove the frogspawn. Warms my heart! ...sorry for the poor picture quality...blackberry camera
  8. Howdy folks, Thought I would post a new and improved pic of our completed nano. I'm attaching an older pic for comparison. The xenia had to go unfortunately cause it was growing super fast. The zoa colony at the top of the tank isn't open but I'll replace the pic when it does...it's new. How does it look?
  9. Sounds good. I will give it a try:-)
  10. (laugh)metro....that's a good one! Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.
  11. I have a patch of cyanobacteria that is growing on a piece of live rock that is home to a colony of yellow polyps. It seems to almost completely disappear at night but it grows back throughout the day and it seems to be getting a itsy bit larger. I hate it(flame) It is difficult to scrape and syphon out because it is growing in the middle of the yellow polyps. Should I shut the lights off for a couple days? I've heard that can help. Its not really a big problem as of yet...just really annoying. Any advice will help. Thanks again;)
  12. Yes! It is burgundy in color and looks similar to sea lettuce. I think we have the same macro:-)
  13. I am considering purchasing a flaming prawn goby for my 12 gallon nano. I know they are very small so I think it would be perfect. Does anybody have one of these fish or heard anything about them?
  14. Hello again! Being fairly new to the hobby I tend to be a bit neurotic about a few things...water flow especially. My tank is a 12g and is pretty small so getting the flow just right to make all of my inhabitants happy is constantly bothering me. Right now I have it set up so that there is pretty high flow in the upper levels of the tank and a lower current toward the bottom. Is this a good way to have it? My only concern is that there isn't enough flow on the substrate. I don't have any dead zones so I think it's probably just fine and i'm being a wee bit obsessive(nutty) I have mushrooms and rics toward the bottom and they don't like too much flow...right? :-) Any advice/imput would be great! Thanks
  15. Thanks. Good to know. Only have 2 perculas but the macroalgae isn't growing fast and its pretty cute so I'll just let it be for now. Today I noticed what appears to be a few super-tiny bubbles of bubble algae. That concerns me more. Everything seems to clear up on its own in my tank though so I think it will be ok. I know you can an emerald crab to eat BA but I just recently had a hooooorrible experience with a hawaiian strawberry crab so I don't trust true crabs anymore. The strawberry grabbed my McCosker's wrasse behind the head and tore a chunk out during the night. The wrasse died soon after. Needless to say he was removed immediately...evil thing.
