  1. Thanks for the reminder Brandy. I really don't think I'll personally be able to get anything done after all. This has just been repeatedly pushed to the back burner. But you never know. Vanz has a pretty solid one up there now anyway.
  2. Not sure why the anemone will be difficult if the gradients are scrapped when necessary. It's not uncommon to have different versions of a logo based on it's intended use. The anemone logo could even be converted to a two color logo without too much fuss, which would save money in print costs. RonJunior was right to bring up the topic, but there will be plenty of places we'll have the freedom of multiple colors and gradients (like the website).
  3. I like the anemone better as well. It gave the logo depth. The wave lines flatten the overall feel - even with the progressive fade of the lines (I assume that was the purpose of the fade) and putting them behind the lettering. Kuda's comment pointed out the other part that was bothering me. This looks like they're physically above the water and they're orientation with each other does make them look like they're jumping instead of simply swimming next to one another.
  4. From what I can see in the thumbnail vanz, it looks VERY nice. See if you can post it again?
  5. Beings we've got till Nov 11th, I'd say so.
  6. wegotjs, here's a site that covers the traditional logo design process: http://veerle.duoh.com/blog/comments/the_new_duoh_logo_identity Here are some portfolios of identity/logo design work: http://www.logoorange.com/company-logo-1.php http://www.cfxcreative.com/corporateidentity_iln.html http://www.firewheeldesign.com/portfolio/identity/shining_city.php http://www.futurevision.com.ua/portfolio/logo_design_development.htm http://www.thoughtprocessinteractive.com/portfolio-logo-brand-identity.php http://www.toth.ro/identity.htm http://www.andrules-fries.com/corporate_identity.html Certainly not a comprehensive list, but it has quite a few. www.creativehotlist.com has a plethora of searchable portfolios from many different disciplines as well. Lots of inspiration to draw from. Was that what you were looking for?
  7. Thank you Jay. Though I don't know if I'll personally have time to get any other ideas done, what's your idea of a new absolute deadline? Also, I think we've got some good direction here now, should we just post further questions in this thread about what people are looking for? Depending on the time allowed, maybe some preliminary sketches or something could be posted here to keep off base ideas from being taken too far. Again, though the new timeline and speed of responses are really going to dictate the success of that. So let’s get something good going everyone!
  8. Critiquing isn't a new thing to me, so I appreciate everyone's honesty about the attempts. In fact, I usually prefer hearing from clients what they don't like than simply hearing "That's good" and moving on. I often find comments from clients help push the logo in directions that were unexpected and they evolve into something great instead of good. The logos I submitted were stabs in the dark, because there wasn't time to go through the formal steps of asking just what they logo should "say" to our audience. I was surprised by the deadline move as much as many others were, but it happens. I don't know what the timeline is for getting things printed on t-shirts and so on, but if there is time for another quick round, I'd be willing to give it another shot based off some constructive criticism. If there are ideas people have about what they'd actually like the logo to represent, that'd help. Though I have been reading comments about the current banner, and I think Brandy tried to head that up by saying there's a difference between a banner and a logo. A logo needs to be recognizable in very small form in some cases. The banner has too much in it to show as more than a rectangular blog once it's shrunk down. I realize there's a lot represent in this hobby, which makes it difficult to impossible to get everything across in one simple graphic. I went through a few sketches of my own to at least incorporate a coral and a fish, but didn't have time to get those vectorized into something I was happy with, so I ended up with one fish and some text. I tried to put the speech bubble in B. to represent the fact that pnwmas.org is a large forum where people can chat about the hobby. But it didn't work as well as expected in this attempt. Specifics when it comes to telling me what you're after are much more helpful than, "I don't like it". What don't you like? The fish? The text? The way the text is shaped? Would you like a different fish? No fish? A coral instead? Etc... I heard one comment at the beach cleanup that clown fish were a definite no, because they're over used. So I tried to use a fish I haven't seen used anywhere else in a logo. I'm open to other ideas if there are any. Personally, I'd hope that some sort of imagery would be incorporated into the logo. I hope you can take the following critique as constructive and not offensive reefgeek, but what you have here doesn't say much more than we like water. I like the font you've got, it's simple, and the shading adds some interest to it, but there needs to be more around it that tells the audience what we're about. Whether the imagery is abstract, photo graphic or cartoonish, it needs more.
  9. Ya, I wish we still had till the end of the month too. There are other designs I was working on, but didn't get a chance to get them even to a point of wanting to post them. Plus, there's a guy I wanted to get a hold of that does some awesome identity work, but that definitely would have taken till the end of the month...
  10. Brandy, Yes, I should have kept the font the same size on number 2 like I did with number 3. I was trying to see how well it worked with keeping Pacific Northwest on top and Marine Aquarium Society on the bottom (right side up). But to do it, I had to lower the font size or kerning (letter spacing). Really, this wasn't the best solution, just what I threw together last minute as an option. If the overall concept of number two gets the votes, I can make those changes later.
  11. Can't say I've gotten one either?? I've gotten other evite emails through my gmail address, so I don't think it's getting blocked by the spam filter. John, can you send one to me again just to make sure?
  12. OK, here's what I've got. I made a few different versions of it just for options. I can't decide which I really like the best... If there's anything you like about one, that you'd like to see added to one of the others, just let me know. 1. 2. 3. 4. 5.
  13. Ok, so I'm finally getting back to this. Skimmer pump looks fine. No mods that I can see. And I got model wrong earlier, it's an Aggressor AIS-90.
  14. Ha! didn't notice you just said you already bought one. Let us know if you get things working.
  15. Bubble is only on one side and it's just a florescent. If you're interested, price is negotiable.
  16. Both dsoz and Twitterbait are right. You'll need a crossover cable to get them to talk to each other with out a small hub or router. I'm not sure if a Best Buy or Office Depot would have one, though a small computer shop might have one or be able to make you one. If you have a problem getting things hooked up, it'll give me an excuse to come by for another visit.
  17. OK, the real dimensions are... Left-right (tank only) - 24" Left-right (the shelf the tank sits on) - 28" Filter-front most part of bubble - 20" Filter-front of tank - 15" Tank and stand total height - 58" (Though the protein skimmer sticks up another 2 1/2")
  18. Good question. I can say approximations from memory, right now... Left-right ~30" Box and stand front to back (minus bubble and filter on back) is ~10" Bubble sticks out about another 10" Filter/protein skimmer hangs on back ~6" Whole thing is ~5' tall Tank alone ~30" (since it's square). But I'll try to get over to the place it's at to measure it tonight. (I'm in the process of moving)
  19. Sorry I forgot to get back to this. It's an Aggressor A1590. I bought it used with the tank, so I'm not positive it doesn't have any mods, but it doesn't look like it has (see others like it in the lfs).
  20. I bought this new for $800, loved it, but now I've out grown it with an 85 gal behemoth. Lots more room for my corals to grow. This is a great tank for beginner saltwater or freshwater as is has all the filter, protein skimmer and lights needed.
  21. What do the names under the forum handles mean? (ie Toad Fish, Trigger, Whale, Shark, Mantis, Angel Fish, Sailfin Tang, etc). Do they relate to how much you've posted to the forums or something else? (popcorn)
  22. We've got a protein skimmer that we can get going perfectly sometimes, but not always. Most often it's temperamental. It loves to overflow the middle cylinder and simply pour into the collection bin up top. It happens sometimes if we add water, other times it's an eventual over the course of a day. How do we stabilize it? We've tried venturi valve adjustments, which works sometimes, but other times not. (flame) (scratch) (cussing) Help us please?
  23. Got the chiller today. Thank siskiou!
