  1. Hey i need to get this moved, 200 bucks, a pretty amazing deal, will be out most of the day running errands, but i need to get this guy moved. Let me know. Tim
  2. The skimmer does have a lot of coraline built up on it. I Thought about cleaning everything up, however i know im a bit of a Nazi about knowing what goes into my tank, so i felt i would leave it as is. Like i said im really trying to get a lot of this stuff taken care of, so if you are lookin for something i would be interested in dealing a bit, or may be interested in some things in trades, but at this point not really any fish stuff. Thanks for lookin! Whatever doesnt sell here will head to ebay/craigslist. Everything was very well taken care of and gently used. Thanks Tim Oh Dimensions on the sump, its actually a really simple design, its 3ft, by 12 wide, and 12in tall. With about a 15 inch section in the middle for a fuge. I really liked the flow through designs and this design has worked really well for me in the past. So it nothing near professionsal, just what i wanted when i was planning to put all this together.
  3. pictures inc, i do also have a skimmer, its a Euro Reef ES6-2 with pump, and its a freaken beast. I think its set rating was 75g, but i had it on my 120 when i had it and never has a single problem with it. I think i paid somewhere like 300 for it, so maybe 100 bucks? The tank is 6 sided each side being 16 inches. I measured and it looks like its about 25 inches from one side to the other. The stand is a bit wider at each point, and about 18 inches on either side. The UV steralizer is a Coralife 9w version. Well the bulb says 9w with two bulbs kind of together as one. I purchased it to help clean up a fish only tank i had. I know theirs pro's and con's to them, but figured somone may want it. Pictures are coming in the next few moments.
  4. Well im heading back out to colorado, and this time i actually need the money so im going to be selling a lot of my equipment. Im headed out to my parents garage right now to go snap pictures of everything, and make a more thorough list, but thought i would post up some of the things i know for sure that i have. When i moved back to oregon i sold most of my older stuff and only kept a lot of the newer things, so everything is in great condition, with 6 months or less use on it, unless i write different. So here goes. I will be willing to negotiate on some things, or if you are wanting several things we can work stuff out too. Everything is being stored in Hubbard, its about 5 miles off I-5 in between Wilsonville and Woodburn. So here goes 90g Acrylic Hex tank. Nearly new had soem fresh water stuff in it but never got around to making it into a reef tank, and the acrylic looks amazing. Undrilled and with stand. $400 obo. 2 Corallife 400w Metal Halide Ballasts. I dont know what the going rate is on these, but thinking 100 each with a 6 month old 20k bulb seems like a steal compared to what i paid origonally, but if things have changed im willing to deal. Several Sieo powerheads, a UV steralizer, several pumps, i just have lots of stuff. I will list it when i make the list tonight. But if someones looking for that stuff i have a lot. Also have a 36in Power Compact light that was over my sump, it has about a year of use, sure it could use new bulbs, prob 20 bucks for it. I built a new sump myself about 6 months ago for this tank as well. Its hand built out of acrylic, holds water just fine, really nothing special at all, but if someone is looking for one i would take 20 bucks for it. I will be posting more when i get back to my house. I really want to move a lot of this stuff soon so if yoru in the market talk to me and we can make stuff work out. Tim
  5. The Three Amigo's. No question
  6. I have to admit i'm way more excited for SC2 then i was for Burning Crusade. Hell i still get on and play some DoTA here and there, and i think its about time for a new GOOD RTS.
  7. One thing to be careful about is power coming out of the receiver. Laptops until most CD players of old have a powered Headphone jack. Most receivers will have a low level of power comming through units, to give it a little boost when it comes in, however some cheap units will push power back in large un-fluid (un-fluid? sorry couldnt think of anything better) jolts, and some high end receivers constantly push power back through, in theory this could push enough power back to fry your motherbored. I personally have never had an issue, or even seen first hand that it happens, but if its a long term setup look to optical, or find a "one way" headphone-->Component(RCA) plug, that either limits power back, or has a fuse built in. Tim
  8. When i had one i started with goldfish, it was rather entertaining, but after a while i felt it was time for a change, you can also use a "fish wand" type of thing. I used a Dowel with piece of fishing line and a strong Stainless clip, would clip on a decent size group of frozen mysis and just wand em around. It gives the illusion of them eating while it makes feeding a bit more interactive for you. Im sure they would just start grabbing it as it floated down eventually, but its pretty fun. Also if you are feeding fresh water fish there is a water adative you can purchase (cant remember the name im sure somoene will) that adds some nutrients for the fish, they just get it by swimming around. But it should ensure that they are getting all the good stuff then need. Tim
  9. I know i dont post much, just read and as questions here and there, but thought i would *** my .02. For background: I have my Microsoft A+, am a Dell certified Technician, as well as as Apple Tech certified 2006. Vista has its ups and downs. Most people have formed the opinion that Microsoft=Bad guy, thus giving Vista a bad name to start with. When looking at computers it should really just be matter of budget and need. I have 2 computers and 2 Mac's at my house. One machine i build to take advantage of Vista with the new Quad core Intel CPU. My old XP machine. A mac mini to use as a radio (bout all its good for imo but was free) and a Dual G5 that eats electricity and does little more. I like Vista. Granted i have a PC i built to utalize the OS, but i feel it offers more for the average user without too much of a change. For it to work well and simply you just have to spend some time with it setting it up how you want it. Also in the coming year when DirectX10 comes out stringer and becomes a requirment, it will really show the giant gap between the two OS's. I own mac's and dislike them. They don't offer enough for the added price. When they used their own hardware in the late 90's i think they were superior, however now that they are just Dell's with a pretty case i dont think its worth it. If you like your mac great, mine sits on my desk and plays music through itunes, and my G5 sits under my desk and works as a NAS drive. Just some thoughts, Vista is pretty fresh and new, like XP it will take some time for people to realize that it is better, it will go through some bugs, but all in all it will be the norm soon enough. Tim
  10. Well since my sump is going to be on more on the side rather then right below the back would be simpler. Plus with the back of the tank being black acrylic i wouldn't be seeing things behind it. Now i would personally rather use some of the flex tubing, rather then strait plumbing, i've worked with PVC pipes bufore but for what im doing i was thinking having a 2 foot piece of PVC down then like a 45 degre coupling to some of the hot tub type tubing. Does anyone know where you can get it online where i can get it in the relative length i need? or some sites that have good reef plumbing materials? Thanks again Tim
  11. There are 0 holes in the tank at this point. Thats why i was curious as to what the best way to drill would be. Since it is a taller tank i would rather not have a 3 ft piece of PVC comming up through the bottom. I was also thinking that by having the drain and flow in the rear of the tank it would be much simpler to add some ball valves. My real concern was if there were any BAD things that could happen drilling in the side and not the bottom, or what advantage to drilling on the bottom there is. Thanks again Tim
  12. Hey guys ive been pretty bad about writing in here, had some work overseas, and finally back, anyway. I have a pretty nice 90g Acrylic Hex. I built a sump that will sit next to the tank in a bench. The tank is un-drilled and thus brings up my question. For overflow and return do i need to drill holes in the bottom of the tank? I always seem to see people talk about drilling in the bottom. Yet logically it seems like drilling holes closer to the top would make more sense. The back of the Tank is Black Acrylic so there wouldnt be an issue of seeing tubes ect. It just seems all around more simple to drill a hole a few inches below the water line for a drain, then use a (dy-somthing or other the pvc thing that sucks the water down.) Or is there a reason one needs to drill holes in the bottom? Thanks in advance, also lookin for rock if anyone reads this. Tim
  13. I actually was looking for a while for a decent sump, and ended up just making my own. Perviously i had built one out of a 20g 1ong, and later with a 40 breeder, but wanted more space then a 20g, and the 40 breeders didnt fit, and were more money then i wanted to spend. So i went to TAP plastic on tigard (not meaning ot plug em BUT) and they were awesome. I got all the pieces i needed to make a 36/12/12 in 1/4 inch for 75 bucks, picked up some acrylic cement and applicator for 5 more. Then i bought some scrap pieces to add baffles in, its a buck per pound of scrap pieces. Then finally some scilicone to make sure its all right. Total spent less then a hundred bucks, but i am getting exactly what i wanted. I will post some pics of it tomorrow after i add in the baffles. All in all im pretty happy with it, and the people there were awesome. Just an idea, took me abotu 20 min tonight ot assemble the tank itself. Tim
  14. yea ive done the HoB overflow and really didnt like it. To much headache, i think i have the basic idea, but will talk more and post pics before i drill anything. Im headed down to salem today and am gonan hit up 2 of the LFS down there, the one on lancaster, and the one down off market street. Then am gonna hit up home depot and start some plumbing ideas, and look at makin the hood. I'm contemplateing whether to do 12 or 18 inch high hood, and favoring the 18 inch more and more. But still wondering how im gonna make it so i can reach in there if needed. Anyway thanks for the replies. Still lookin for a sump tank! Tim
  15. Hey so I havnt posted much on here, recently moved to oregon, had a 110 glass aquarium back in Co, and just recently got a 90g Hex Acrylic tank. It is amazing, great size, will be an awesome display, but have a few (donsens) of questions. So here goes: My last tank had a built in overflow, this one doesnt, i understand bulkheads ect, but want suggestions as to the best way to drill, and set up a draining system. The stand with it is horrible space wise, and ive never been a huge fan of cramming a supm/fuge underneath, so i will be building on into a Decons Bench that will sit next to the tank. So main question is what do i need to build in the tank for the draining, a barrier wall? or is there an easier way? Next. I was looking at how i should return the water. My last tank i was going to add a Squid(its an acronym i think) where it rotates water from one side to another, im sure you know what im talking about. Is it safe to use one on the return line from the sump? I was planning on building pvc bar to run along the back of the tank, do holes just drilled in Pvc work ok as exits? or is there a better way? Next(hope some people like questions) I have 2 400w MH. Im thinking it should be enough light, but not sure how high off the water they need to be. There isnt a canope so im going to build one, but wondering how high i should mount the lights. Also where is a good place to buy reflectors? Its kind of an odd shape so im going to need an odd kind of reflector, any ideas? Last (for now im sure) Im going to build a fuge/sump. Like i said it will be inside of a bench next to the tank. So im looking for like a 33g tank, or i think the long narrow tanks are 33g, as well as a place to have glass cut. The last sump that i built i had amazing sucess with, but will make a few modifiations that i missed last time. So if anyone has a tank thats longer then 2 feet and looking to get rid of it let me know, or knows a place that sells used tanks ect. I have a PC light i will attach to the lid of the bench, then will drill holes for tube/pipeing to come in and out. All in all im excited for how simple it will be to make water changes, add water ect. Im headed downt o salem tomorrow to run some erands, and will prob be stopping by at least of the two stores i saw on the list in salem. Any suggestions on which one? Lookin for someone who i may be able to ask some of the above questions and talk plumbing. Other then that i will post some pics up when i can, but hopin i could get a few questions answered. Oh yea, whats the going rate for Live rock around here? or anyone planning on paerting a system out in the near future? =p thanks again guys Tim
  16. Well with what im seeing in your pic above (very little) i would go with some Joes Juice, a while back i had a whole grip of rock i purchsed from a guy tearing his tank down, was litteraly coverd in aptaisa. The synthic type remedies (ie non pepermints or other creatures that eat em) can do dmg to other corals, or fickle fish, but with a near empty tank i would say give em all a good dose, then some more, and wait until the majority is gone. Since you have the luxery of not having much in your tank to deal with you can be more free to move your rocks around and fine the little guys, as well as dont have to worry about the juice hurting the frial acros or anything else you may have in your tank. Buy a grip of the stuff and nuke em out now while you can, rather then have them in submission and let them come out later when you tank is stocked. As far as pepermint shrimp the only problems i ever had with them is when my carpent anemone would eat one. They very cool additions imo usually active and great will even hop on some large fish to clean em off if they need it, and are willing. tim
  17. ive had all sorts of fish, the only one i truely ever loved was my Christmass Wrasse. Some have hard luck, either it eats corals, fights with other wrasses, or is never out, mine was completly opposite, plaed well never nipped at any of my corals or clams, and was always out to show off.
  18. Hey guys just stumbled on to you site, and now im all excited! Anyway i grew up here in oregon, lived in colorado the last 4 years, and now im back. However while in colorado i became addicted to this whole salt water fish tank craze...dont know if any of you have ever really heard of it, but when i left colorado i sold my tank, and now that im here i want one again. So i have a few questions about the area, and i guess i can tell you all a bit about me too. First off im 22, i live in HUbbard, and go to school at Western Oregon. While in colorado there was the coolest greatest fish store ever, and after going numberous times to look at all their stuff i decided to take the plunge. I started with a 22 gallon hex tank, and after a month i moved to a 55 gallon, then another 3 months later i went to a 90, and when i left i had a 120. It was a lot of moving and shuffling but so so worth it. Now im looking to start again. When i left i sold my tank(s) and inhabatents, but kept my lights, 3 400w electronic balast MH, with 20k lights, and my Euroreef CS6. As well as my pump a baracuda, and a ton of other power heads and tubing ect. So i have a lot of the more expensive stuff but that puts me in a bit of a bind now. Im looking to make anotehr tank, but not sure what size, ive already decided that anything larger then a 65 is too big. And after moving to a tank thats 18 inches deep (front to back not top to bottom) i dont think i could go back to a 12 in tank. So i guess the first thing im wondering is what stores are there out here? and what stores are good? No matter what thread on what web site i look at it always seems that there is a sub par fish store around. My main goal at this point is to find a place i can go in and get som fish or corals thats local, rather then getting gouged/not satisfied with internet purchases. Also im wondering about the area itself. In Co i had a lot of issues with evaporation, mostly due to the intense lighting but also , im sure, to the dry climate. So any other regonal issues that there may be around. Third im having a rough time decideing what kind of tank i want. I know i want live sand and rock, and some sort of corals, but thinking a "fish only" type of tank may be somthing i would like, but then not sure how i would adapt to not having a predominate SPS/coral tank. If so i may want to trade some equptment around. Last if anyone has a cool or more exotic syyle tank that isnt outrageous i may be interested. I know with xmas comming up finds are tight all around so if you have something smaller sitting around maybe a trade for some good lighting ect. Anyway thanks in advance guys hope to talk to you all a lot in the near future. Glad i stumbled on to this. Tim
