dsoz Posted February 2, 2009 Share Posted February 2, 2009 It is not good to buy used heaters. They tend to be one piece of equipment that goes bad often (thermostats). They tend to get stuck in the "on" position and cook your tank. It is better to buy one of these new. Also, think about getting two smaller heaters. That way if one goes bonkers it takes a lot longer to affect your tank (either stuck "on" or stuck "off"). This point is invalid if you have a controller for it.
