andy Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I hate them. I HATE them. I HATE THEM. Scratch one green-with-orange-skirt zoa frag. Scratch one polyp off Scott's pink zoa frag. GAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHH! I HATE THEM! (flame) Quote
CA2OR Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 can I see a pic of one? sorry to read about your losses. Quote
RoseCityAquarium Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I lost a whole colony of super bright pink blastomussa over night woke up and 5 asterinas were hanging out on the skeleton Quote
madmike Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 get some harlequins, they will take care of them in short order Quote
andy Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 CA2OR -- little white/grey/brownish seastars. IME the grey ones like zoas and the brown ones like SPS. Quote
andy Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Mike -- yeah but then what? Feeding them choc chips creeps me out. Though at this point I think I could get over it... 'cause I HATE ASTERINAS Quote
impur Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Caught one on my demon eye zoas last week. It was curled up around a single polyps going to town. I found another today on the side of my tank. Ugh they are as bad as aiptasia. Kill 10 find 4 more the next day. Quote
andy Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 Hurm -- tell me more about Harlequins... Will they stop the choc chip star I feed them (once they're done with the asterinas) from munching my coral? Quote
CA2OR Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 oh....(censored) I have a few of those in my tank. Could they be the reason that some of my zoa's aren't doing so well? I haven't noticed them on the zoa's or SPS but that doesn't mean anything right? Quote
andy Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 There are several varieties. IME, the brownish ones that ate some SPS are quite rare. The grey ones that harass and eat zoas are a bit more common. The most common lighter, white ones seem harmless and like to eat diatoms. Just what I've observed... Quote
markdadof2 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I have had a few of the white ones before and from what I can tell they harmed nothing. Haven't seen one in a long while now. Everything I have read says the darker color ones are not good. Quote
fishmanmike01 Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Would these be the buggers you are talking about? Quote
CA2OR Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 That is what I have in my tank. Sad thing is I thought they were kinda cool. Quote
snowpunk Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I have tons of white and grey, but they haven't harmed anything yet. I keep a close eye just incase though. Quote
mrgreenthumb Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 I have them as well...but they don't appear to bother anything that I am aware of... Quote
andy Posted January 26, 2009 Author Posted January 26, 2009 They're intimidated by your chalice collection... 1 Quote
mrgreenthumb Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 haha you have been cracking me up today....that was a good one... i'm (nutty) i know Quote
dsoz Posted January 26, 2009 Posted January 26, 2009 Lately, I have been finding some in my tank that have red and green colors to them. I also found one near a monti digitata that had a bare patch... I checked it for nudibranchs first, and found none (I think I am getting pretty good at spotting them...). So now I am blaming the asterinas. I am taking out any that I find that have color to them. So far I have found four. dsoz Quote
