CA2OR Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 What would cause my water to go from clear to cloudy when I turn the lights on? Quote
dsoz Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 bacterial bloom maybe? Is it in your new tank, or in your old one? dsoz Quote
CA2OR Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 the new tank. I put in that cheato I got from you last night and today before I turned the lights on and it was clear, then went really cloudy for a while. It did start to clear up though. Quote
mrgreenthumb Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 maybe a snail or stomattela spawn?? Quote
CA2OR Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 There is no living animals in there right now. I pulled all the shells from the sand before I put it in.ugh....I am at a loss here. Quote
dsoz Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Probably a bacterial bloom. The addition of all that new bacteria, the detritus that was in that clump of chaeto, and the waste (ammonia) that was in the water. That is a combination that could cause an increase of bacteria in the water column. Give it a few days and it will clear up. Use some filter floss (throw out every other day) to make it clear up faster. Relative impact on your tank is not much. dsoz Quote
CA2OR Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 Thank you again....geez that is all I can say to you over and over Dsoz. You too Mrgreenthumb Quote
mrgreenthumb Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 yea i wouldn't be stressing it at all if there is nothing living in there, and I would have to agree with dsoz, if there is nothing else in the tank other than stated, that rules out just about everything but a bacterial bloom. Just let it cycle and be patient young grasshopper:p. Quote
CA2OR Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 I am working on that. It is a new development this "patients" you speak of isn't it? LOL Quote
snowpunk Posted January 25, 2009 Posted January 25, 2009 Take it as a good thing, the faster it gets good and dirty, the faster it can get clean and fully cycled!!! Quote
CA2OR Posted January 25, 2009 Author Posted January 25, 2009 It looks as though you were correct there Snowpunk, tested water today and amonia is down. Quote
