jason7504
im worried that the rock on the left side isn't stable enough..it easily rocks back and fourth when i wiggle it..would that get knocked over with fish and corals? reef-fisher
Depends on what in there. Gobies, urchins, snails and hermits love to knock my stuff over. The more secure you make it in the beginning, the better off youll be in the long run.
jason7504
your snails knock your rock over?
Krux
drill it with a masonry bit and use nylon threaded rod and nuts to bolt it together.
reef-fisher
your snails knock your rock over? Yep, kinda. They knock over corals more than rocks, but some are attached to smaller rocks. I have two big turbos that are a menace and will be moving on very shortly. They were transferred from my other tank
jason7504
i didnt want to get any turbos because they have been known to knock corals over but i might need to get 1 to take care of my GHA because my ceriths and 1 astrea aren't doing much of anything..i can always take it out and put it in another tank after it does its job too
CA2OR
Good point. They can't knock over corals that are glued down though, right?
reef-fisher
Good point. They can't knock over corals that are glued down though' date=' right?[/quote'] Haha...of course they can. They are like bulldozers of the tank world.

MadReefer
I would suggest a turbo type of snail because they are good at eating algae, including hair algae.
darrellw
My emerald crab was a monster on getting rid of the GHA after my cycle.
jason7504
yeah im getting 1 turbo today to get rid of my GHA..but i dont want too many because they can knock corals down..and if it starts doing that i will take it out and put it in my fuge darrellw, i was thinking about getting a emerald crab because they are good at algae control and scavaging but i decided to go a crab free tank becuase i dont want to risk them nipping at fish or corals
darrellw
darrellw, i was thinking about getting a emerald crab because they are good at algae control and scavaging but i decided to go a crab free tank becuase i dont want to risk them nipping at fish or corals Yes, that can be a concern, but by emerald has been well behaved. My hermits has been too, other than they think nothing of walking across my zoas (but then some of my snails do that too!).
mrgreenthumb
I have a few emeralds, and quite a few hermits as well and neither have ever bothered anything except each other occasionally, just the hermits battling it out for the best shell. They have never messed with any corals, and if anything the fish mess with them haha. Especially the six line.

jason7504
yeah his tail is forked and swims like an eel..love watching him yeah i bet..are you going to get the same type of clowns this time?
CA2OR
I am thinking of going with True's again and those Australian black's. The ones that are black and white with yellow side fins. I may have to decide between the 2 different ones though depending on size of fish and how far away from my upgrade I am when I am ready to get fish again. jason7504
that would be cool..how far do you think you are?
CA2OR
I imagine most likely about 4 to 6 weeks. My luck it will be the 6. Just installed UV sterilizer today to clean out parasite's if possible from my water. I need to make sure whatever killed my clowns is dead before I add more money in fish to my tank. I already lost $90 in clowns, $80 in tangs, $30 in Psuedochromie's, $20 in Diamond Goby. Not to mention my wife's interest. Gotta get that back. mrgreenthumb
hey ca2or, don't feel bad it happens to all of us, I will share just 2 of my many losses, I've had 2 super male lineatus wrasses jump out of the tank, even with egg crate, thats $600 retail, I was working at a fish store at the time so it was $200 each for a total loss of $400 :(. I also a a male scotts fairy wrasse from vanauatu die for no apparent reason, another $175. I don't by to many fish anymore, just corals because they are so much easier to keep!!
