Quigley
Dose any one know what these are? They have been spreading under my mushrooms on this rock.
dsoz
are they just red mushrooms? Are they hard or soft? Is it like coraline algae? Is it a type of macroalgae? My guess from the pic is that they are just small red mushrooms dsoz
MadReefer
It looks like algae to me but need more info to be sure.
dsoz
Now that I have had a cup of coffee my head is a little clearer. I remember having some red algae that looked like that when I first set up my tank. Since then my tang has stripped it bare so I forgot about it. So, Quigley, is it more like algae or more like mushrooms? dsoz
Nyles
Its algae, I get it some places here and there, I'm not a fan of it as it can be invasive, I had to pry it away from zoas the other day as it was suffocating them
Quigley
I don't think it is shrooms. It has a leathery texture. Nyles is probably right. the shrooms on that rock are nor as spread out as the ones of the same type on the next rock over. To bad it can be invasive. It is kind of pretty. markdadof2
+1 on algae I had this algae about 4 months into my new tank...it has since gone away or at least decreased to the point I don't notice it
Nyles
its ok to let it grow, you will just have to pick some off from time to time, its not a big deal, its not like gsp or anything thats hard to remove. You can easily pick off the parts that are competing with coral since it tends to shelf like a cap when it really wants light.

fishiefish
yeah it looks like a algae I had when I first started and I think I still sometimes get it by my return......but my s.tang takes care of it pretty quickly
