drock59
Looking for a new skimmer for my 135g system. It seems skimmer technology is always changing so I am curious what people are using these days. Id like to spend somewhere in teh 400-500 dollar range, suggestions welcome. Thanks
R-3
I think one of the Octo Extreme 200 or MSX 200 (pretty much the same thing) would be a good choice from that. Check out reviews on RC. Most people love em! I bought a MSX300 for my tank and it puts out some bubbles. Heres a link. You can get one for under $300 shipped which is nice too. http://www.marinesolutionsinc.com/catalog/Protein-Skimmers-MSX-Skimmers/c22_48/index.html http://www.reefspecialty.com/Protein-Skimmers-Octopus-Extreme/c21_65/index.html
drock59
YOu like the MSX? How is the build? I was looking into those as an option. People seems to really like them.
R-3
Build is great. It is solid. You do have to replace the airline tubing (chinsy crap) on the older models but big woop. The price is right too! Later Ryan

spectra
For the price I would agree with R3 go with the MSX(rock2) I have a ATB small cone skimmer but the price is more than twice the price of the MSX stuff. But I can say after owning a ATB I will not go back to another brand of skimmer. They are worth every penny to me.
kilmca
I bought a reeflo orca skimmer about 2 months ago for my 400 gallon tank and i read a lot of reviews on the MSX and other skimmers. All the reviews i read said the MSX skimmers were a lot of skimmer for your money. I actually considered buying (2) MSX300 for my 400 because two were less than the reeflo orca 250 but then i would have had to clean two skimmers and 4 pumps. too much work, plugs and it would have been really tight in my sump.
