shaywood Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 After 5 years my yellow tang died. I would like to replace him with more than one. Is this possible? Will yellow tangs co-exist in a 125 gallon tank? I have very few other fish, along with corals. Quote
dsoz Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 IDK about the larger aquarium, but I can speak about what I had. I had a YT and a fox-faced rabbitfish in a 75g, and the tang chased the fox-face all over the tank. They were too similar in shape and color I guess. dsoz Quote
badguitarist Posted July 25, 2008 Posted July 25, 2008 yes it can work if you keep them in a larger group. As a minimum 5 would be ideal, although sometimes you can get away with 3 or even 2 tangs of the same species. Generally, though, the larger the group the less aggression you will have between fish. andy Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 5 large tangs in a 125 seems a bit cramped to me; some people have problems with same-shape tangs not getting along, others don't. Guess it's a toss up. Quote
spectra Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I think you could get away with at least 3 but look for smaller ones. I have 2 small tangs in my tank and they co exist but do have a tussle every once in a while. Granted they are not the same exact species but still kind of get along. I know it is hard to find small tangs but look around they will pop up. I had to look for a while before I found mine. Good luck and let us know what you end up doing. Quote
diverdown Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I heard Seahorse Aquarium is getting a Hawaiian shipment in on saturday. They might have a few small yellows, or Koles, fourline wrasses, mystery wrasse, flame angels, .. (whistle) oh yeh yellow tangs.. IMO if they are small they should be ok. We catch them as small as an inch. J Quote
defigart Posted July 26, 2008 Posted July 26, 2008 I am only repeating what I have heard. If you introduce small tangs at the same time, and an uneven number of them, you can get away with it, at least for a while. Quote
