$550 for a self-cleaning skimmer that looks kind'a like a modded Fluval? The price seems high given the mass-market look and lack of an expensive acrylic body, but the automatic cleaning feature sounds interesting. Red Sea doesn't have the best rep, their current niche seems to be newbies who quickly upgrade to a better skimmer or leave the hobby -- it'll be interesting to see how this skimmer does.

Seems like other than the self-cleaning neck (which is very intriguing), there's nothing to like about this skimmer. Square bodies are WAY less efficient than cylindrical (which are in turn WAY less effective than conical), from a couple pictures I've seen the transition from body to neck is horrendous (basically a flat plate rather than a cone transition), and 450 LPH air is nothing to brag about, and 1200 LPH of water (almost 1:3 air:water) is pretty bad too.

I don't think this skimmer will do very well. That said I haven't seen one in person so maybe I'm jumping to conclusions.

I agree regarding performance, but the fact that a product is junk has never stopped Red Sea from making a bunch of money off of it (Berlin skimmer, their all-in-one nano, their test kits). To be fair, I do like Red Sea's salt mix.

On the other hand, even if it isn't state of the art replacing junk like the Berlin and the Sea Clone (in the newbie niche) would certainly be a good thing. Though at $500 they really aren't priced for newbies are they?
