Victim 8, Tenth Day (Weds)

Victim 9, Seventh Day (Weds)

  • It's Over - SUCCESS
  • No more visible Aptasia. Rocks have all been moved back to the display tank.
  • It's amazing to be Aptasia Free (for now)
    • Aptasia always seem to come back, Somehow.  But I can now move into maint mode.

Summary:

  • 26 Peppermint Shrimp
  • January 13 - March 9, 2022 <-- basically two months
  • Nine batches of rock cycled through isolated tank, No Food, lights off
    • Most batches kept 6 days, last few batches kept longer
    • The deeper the Aptasia, the longer the shrimp needed with them

Some final photos

Follow up.    I took out the 20L "Infinity Tank" and caught all the peppermint shrimp.    Of the original 26, I found 23.  Not bad.  (this container only shows 21.  + one hitch hiker on a rock back into the main tank +1 I found in the next morning)

Shrimp have been redistributed.  5 to my frag tank, rest to the main display tank.   It's amazing how hard it is to find any of them 18 shrimp in the display tank.  I've now found Four of them.   But I don't think anyone is eating them.   At least they weren't chased nor harassed at all when I put them in the tank.

And a clean 20L, ready for some future project.

Maintenance Mode - Escaped Aptasia #1

  • Can you spot the Aptasia that made it back to the main display tank?
  • 2nd photo to help
  • Found it on Saturday.  Out came my favorite Aptasia killer, F-Aptasia, when dealing with few entities on a basically horizontal surface

Stare Hard, can you find the Escaped Aptasia?

Volume, and no extra feeding.  (without any harassment)

An army of hungry peppermint shrimp did a good job.

  • 8 months later...

Success is soo sweet, but never forever.

I've converted one of my frag tanks into a low flow, no predator tank.  Mostly growing algae, mushrooms, and .. a baby Banggai.  I've been feeding a lot of freshly hatched brine shrimp to the tank, and guess what?  That's rocket fuel to grow aptasia.

So today I a new batch of 12 shrimp arrived.  They're going to be good friends with those aptasia.

Aptasia Death, by peppermint shrimp - round 2.
