talkalot82
I bought the red sea but it's covered with scratches. The lady was told to buff them out with sandpaper and scratched up the sides of the tank glass. So I got the tank real cheap. Now the work begins. Bought a glass buffer kit, one of the best out there. Here goes nothing. Suppose to not leave glass distorted.
Micah
Super interested to see how this comes out. I've been told cerium oxide and a buffer, but that's probably what's in the compound you got.
Blue Z Reef
Good luck, I tried cerium oxide powder on a glass buffing disc on my car detailing rotary buffer. The powder makes a HUGE mess. Didn’t work out well. Hope you have a better experience 😬
Higher Thinking
Yeah I'm really wishing for some success for you, but I've never heard of buffing out a glass tank after someone took sand paper to it.
Parzifal
Ouch sandpaper to glass...too bad. It hurts my teeth just thinking about what that probably sounded like
pdxmonkeyboy
I had a few scratches in my old tank. Used cirium oxide, lapidary paste and some expensive diamond polishing paste. With a power buffer i spent 2.5 hours polishing it and in the end.... it didn't do a god [language filter] thing. First and last glass tank for me. 1
talkalot82
So this stuff is different. It's a paper buffing pad that takes out scratches not the curium oxide. It's a $300 professional kit. It was recommended by a local glass shop. .. it's called glass renu.its suppose to never distort. And get deep scratches. I've seen videos it looks amazing just time consuming. Gumby
Would love to hear results also. Good luck.
pdxmonkeyboy
yeah, if it works that would be awesome sauce!
Parzifal
If it does work you may have just made every glass aquarium owner on here happy! Scratched glass I thought was always a permanent thing, but if it can be buffed out....boom, no need for acrylic ;). You Could rent it out to others when your done with your tank and recoup the cost. Charge a small rental fee and a returnable deposit pending clean and functional returns.

If so, I wouldn't have to plan for @pdxmonkeyboy to build me a new acrylic tank until more like 2050 instead of 2030 😃
pdxmonkeyboy
Before glass owners get all excited... you will have to drain the tank to get the scratches out. So... call it a "slight" inconvenience.
talkalot82
Yes tank has to be dry. But this tank isn't set up yet so no problem. Still waiting on product. It was shipped via ups today
pdxmonkeyboy
I watched a youtube video last night on it. Seems pretty legit, especially their high purity cirium oxide. I do know it is important to keep the polisher parallel to the surface to avoid getting swirl marks. Hope it works out for you!
talkalot82
I have a great buffer and I have flip the tank up as needed so we buff at proper angle. Kit comes tomorrow
