While this recent snowstorm is unlike anything we typically see in this part of the country, it's definitely taught everybody many things. For those of us in the reefing hobby, it has taught and/or reminded us of the importance of backup power when the electricity goes out. Obviously electricity outages are not just relegated to massive snowstorms. They can, and do, happen for any number of reasons year round. With that in mind, we have put together a trio of prizes that are aimed at helping you out, when your home goes dark. First up is a PAIR of battery powered air pumps (batteries included, of course!). It can take just a few hours of no water movement before things start dying. Keeping oxygenated water moving is probably the number one thing when you have no power. These little guys will go a long way when there are no other options. Going a step further, we have a battery backup unit. While the battery powered air pumps will alleviate some symptoms, they have some inherent disadvantages compared to an actual battery backup. With this battery backup, you don't even have to be home for it to automatically kick on. Not only that, but it enables your pumps to produce more than adequate flow to maintain the inhabitants. These work for most DC powered pumps commonly used amongst the reefing community. And FINALLY, the ultimate savior in times of power outages. A generator! This baby packs more punch than Ali vs. Frazier. It'll turn your lights on faster than your alkalinity dropped that one time you forget to turn your doser on. It'll bring more heat than those NeoTherm heaters that melted in everyone's tanks. It'll bring your tank back to life faster than Harry Potter when Voldemort hit him with the Avada Kadavra curse... Ok, ok, you all get the point! Any way, here's the beast. Even if you never lose power, having this thing for camping trips or picnic parties in the park will be pretty incredible! So how do you win?!? Well, you buy raffle tickets, that's how. Ticket prices are a bit different this go around. Tickets are $2 each and you get one free ticket for every 10 you buy. So 11 tickets for $20. PNWMAS paying members all receive 2 free tickets. There will be 3 drawings, one for each prize. When you purchase tickets, please tell us which prize you want your tickets going towards. Of course you can spread your tickets across multiple prizes. The drawings will be held one week from today, 8PM on Sunday March 21st. Please send funds through paypal to: Paypal@PNWMAS.org. Be sure to include a note in the payment with your user name so I can match everything up. If you don't have PayPal, send me a PM and I can get you an invoice sent over that you can just use a card for or we can try and figure something else out. This is a great time to get yourself prepared for the next time when (not if) your power cuts out.
