Saltfishlover
If I know my tank uses up between 1-1.5ppm alkalinity. Can I just calculate the amount of ash needed to bring it up and add that to my 5 gal top off ? Or is it best to buy a doser?
Manny Tavan
I would use kalk. That way you replace alk and calcium in a balanced way

Guess I'm confused whether I need a doser for the two part or just add mix to a topoff
Manny Tavan
You can’t mix both alk and calcium to top off. It will precipitate. you can add kalk to top off and it will replace both alk and calcium. Kalk can be rough to ATO pumps though
Saltfishlover
K thanks. I'll look into it
reef-fisher
There is a product by tropic Marin called “all for reef” that sounds like it would work for you. I am not sure about adding it to your ato but it might work. The concern is that your evaporation may vary, so you would have to adjust constantly. A simple single doser could work with kalk or all for reef, but you could also dose by hand for more accuracy vs the ato
Saltfishlover
I suppose I can look for a doser. I'm probably going to need to go that direction eventually. I was just trying to avoid having to research another piece of equipment . Lol.
reefrun
I would definitely invest in a doser
