Googling for Fish-ID, aka searching based on Images

I identified a new goby @psychofireman added to his tank today.  And afterwards realized How I did it may be worth sharing.   On my phone (iphone), the Google app has a button that lets you search based on an image.  It's called Google-Lens.    This is a huge help and I use it regularly, for more than aquarium stuff.   In this case, I just pointed it at my screen - and up came the answer.

Congrats on getting these two cool gobies.  A little googling, and looks like you got Valenciennea helsdingenii.

  • Valenciennea helsdingenii is a species of goby from the Indo-Pacific. It is commonly known as the twostripe goby, black-lined sleeper goby, or railway sleeper goby.
