Second batch percularis

So today's day four. I have 100 plus baby clown fish.

I had a rotifer crash. Last time I defer from my water change rotifer bucket method. Even if they say it's the way if should be done.  Both buckets crashed.  Well they are going again. But it's going to take a few days to regrow.

Thanks garret at premium  aquarium  for having the only roti feast available in a 60 mile radius of me. And open on a Sunday. Saved the day. The clowns readily are eating it.

Not as good as my buckets are , were, but its food in the babys tummys. So yeah...

Clowns are getting little tummys, tommorrow  I'll introduce  baby brine shrimp.  If they hatch on schedule. I did introduce  flakes today as well. A few munching on them already.

Tank pars as much as needed for them.   Ammonia  today is 0ppm. Ph is 8.0. Temperature 79 degrees and staying steady. I'm hoping for a sooner metamorphis  and stronger babys with this batch..

Last batch had alot of issues with heater, elecutions, food, late hatching. So this one is going strong. 20190817_121912.thumb.jpg.e19d63e5622472ec02e0d57b443099b6.jpg

Last time I had 15 on day 5. Today I estimate  due to photo I have 71 give or take.

I still have them every two-three hours eating rotifeast. They eat alot. But I had 120-150 hatch and I lost most to rotifer starvation. So this is good. Some taking super small grounded flakes. Starting baby brine shrimp today.  Wish me luck.

Tank is running temperature of 79.5 degrees

8.0 ph

And 0 ppm ammonia

Every day I do a parents water change on them of 10 percent. Starting day 2. To day 8.

Day 11

So I have about 35 baby's. I had a rotifer crash shop slot starved who wouldn't take roti feast. But rotifers back up and going strong.

All but two clowns eating baby brine shrimp and flakes.

And if anyone's ever comes to Springfield and want to see them. Feel free to message me. My garage is a mess, but the fishes are nice.

When we went on our Search for Corals up North last month. Paul Hamby from Captive Reef Aquaculture was raising some baby clown fish. Looked pretty successful he had I believe 3 batches from different time frames. He will be at the Frag Fest Oct. 5th. If you wanted to talk shop.

Day 13. Got a accurate clownfish count today as going thru metamorphosis. 40. It was hot today so clowns slowed down enough to count.

I see my first stripe. And allot of the baby's have clown bodies. Stripe is the very last thing they get. Metamorphosis takes 4 days or so with percularis clowns.

Not on that chart. Mom's a true percula dad's ocellaris.  Most baby's will be this in pic below. But mom's got onyx in her. So can have oxyx black percularis too, or white. If genes activated. Some times baby's metamorphosis like percula, and some meta like ocellaris. I have a all white percularis now.  They can also be naked or be misbared .

Day 14 update

Got a good count on these I think 40 baby's. Starting to get round clown bodies, and swimming changed. Some have first stripes. One death in 5 days and it was my be fault. While cleaning the tank I put suction cup on baby.

heat in the tank in garage is 81 degrees. Not too bad with 100 degree temp. Outside. It takes days for metamorphosis in percularis to take place.

I had a ammonia spike in take of 1.ppm. I freaked, but much water changes it down to 0ppm. Good thing baby's can take that spike.

8.0 is my pH

Day 15

I have 4 baby's with stripes. Other 30 somes have round body's so stripes coming. It takes 4 days to metamorphosis, Aprox.

I had a slight ammonia spike so I did a small water change to get it back down . Normally I wouldn't do a water change during their changes.

My pH is a nice 8.2

Look at my precious. Rare but she has a second stripe now. Must take after ocellaris daddy. Cause perculas get second stripe about 2 months.

Every once in a while I get a daddy Gene. It's interesting to see.

Sad day today

Day 36

I've lost 4 baby's. I did water change yesterday and I think I may have freight killed 2 of them. (Which happens when feeding brine shrimp) and a few were stunned. Today the stunned weren't swimming laying on sides. Tummy's indented. Think they shocked and stopped eating.

However on the previous batch about same date I had 2 deaths similar. Possible something big is adjusting in their body's like a second stripe stressing them out and they die.

Or my other theory is because their tanks were both new and they are cycling still with a lot of fish. I tested water 0 ppm ammonia but I did have .25 ppm nitrate. Couldn't test nitrite cause I'm out of that test, but pH 8.0.

So possible it's the cycle. I have only two grow out tanks so if that's the reason next batch won't have issue because their tank will be cycled.

Other clowns in tank fine. No sign of parisites or infection

But did microscope one of the baby's if you want to see.
