Barbed fitting are good for low psi settings. Flow only plays a small factor. If it's not barbed ensure you use hose clamps and do not overtighten. You'll know by the water creep near the connection. Treat it just like an oring, too much pressure is the same as too little. It's hard to be exact because marine application do not provide torque settings due to unkown flow paths.
